As a member of the HII Legal Department, this position will support the HII Technical Solutions Division. Applicants should be proactive self-starters, with attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a larger team, to digest information quickly, and to operate in a dynamic evolving business environment. This position will operate under the supervision of several Legal Counsel, and will work collaboratively with other members of the HII Law Department. Responsibilities: The selected candidate will provide general paralegal and project management support to a $1B commercial and government services division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Candidate will be engaged a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to those calling for judgment and independent initiative. Support may include managing litigation dockets and legal holds, facilitating document production, tracking internal investigations support, preparing government disclosures, and tracking law department provided training sessions. May also provide investigatory support and therefore, should have the ability to interview witnesses or custodians of records, determine detailed sources of information from initial inquiry, and clearly document facts. Must possess the ability to effectively, accurately and concisely communicate – both orally and in writing -- with internal and external stakeholders at the executive level, administrative agencies, and outside counsel; apply facts to legal standards; and address complex business operational issues. Must also demonstrate ability to perform research on complex legal questions and factual issues using internal and external resources. Will support TSD Compliance Counsel in the execution and management of division and business unit operations and compliance efforts. Additionally, the candidate will provide general business project management support to the HII Technical Solutions leadership supporting corporate acquisition, integration, and strategic growth initiatives.
This job requires an associate’s degree or equivalent, plus a minimum of 3 years related experience, preferably in a corporate, litigation or general law practice (e.g., Bluebook, Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, PACER, CaseTrack). A thorough understanding of legal terminology, sound research and investigative skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced with the Microsoft Office suite of products and have the ability to use other technology to simplify work efforts, add value and proactively solve and prevent business and legal issues.
