Job Summary:

Perform legal services for and on behalf of the Community as in-house attorney. Responsible for providing legal services and counsel in a number of areas, including but not limited to: representing the Community in tribal court on conservatorship petitions pursuant to Community Conservatorship Ordinance and working closely with conservators and their clients; representing the Community in child welfare matters; reviewing and drafting a variety of transactional documents for gaming and non-gaming enterprises; supporting other attorneys in the areas of employment law, government regulation, legislative drafting, and legal research. Work, as directed by the Business Council or Lead Special Staff Counsel, on issues related to the daily operation of the Community government departments and enterprises and to appear, as directed by the Business Council or Lead Special Staff Counsel, before federal, state and tribal courts (excluding claims against the United States), government agencies and legislative bodies.




Job Duties:

  1. Represent Community on conservatorship petitions and working with conservators and their clients.
  2. Represent Community in child welfare matters.
  3. Review and draft a variety of transactional documents for gaming and non-gaming enterprises and government departments.
  4. Supporting other attorneys in the areas of employment law, government regulation, legislative drafting and legal research.

  1.  Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  2. Licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
  3. At least three years of professional legal experience in relevant areas described in the Job Summary.
  4. Knowledge of legal principles and practices in the area of federal Indian law, conservatorship and guardianship law, child welfare law, employment law and commercial transactions.
  5. Strong writing and legal research skills.
