AVIATION
 

Aviation Operations Specialists help operate one of the largest fleets of aircraft in the world. Hundreds of transport, passenger and combat airplanes and helicopters fly missions every day, and accurate flight information keeps these operations safe and efficient.  Aviation Operations Specialists prepare and provide flight information for air and ground crews.
 

The Aviation Operations Specialist is primarily responsible for scheduling and dispatching tactical aircraft missions. 

 

Your duties as an Aviation Operations Specialist may include:

  • Processing local and cross-country flight clearances
  • Coordinating flight plans
  • Maintaining flight logs on incoming and outgoing flights
  • Alerting crash crews of emergencies
  • Safeguarding classified materials
  • Interpreting and post weather reports 

 

Job training for an Aviation Operations Specialist requires 9 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, followed by 8 weeks of Advanced Individual Training and on-the-job training. Part of this time is spent in a classroom and part in the field under simulated combat.

 

Civilian related jobs

 

Your training as an Aviation Operations Specialist will provide you with the skills that will make it possible for you to pursue a civilian career in aviation. Civilian flight operations specialists often work for commercial and private airlines, air transport companies and airports.

 

Other Army Aviation occupations include: Apache Attack Helicopter System Repairer, Computer/Detection Systems Repairer, Aircraft Electrician, Aircraft Power Plant Repairer, Aircraft Structural Repairer, Avionic Mechanic, Air Traffic Control Operator, Aviation Operations Specialist, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator

Job Requirements

 Requirements for Aviation Operations opportunities:

  

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
  • 17–35 years old
  • Healthy and in good physical condition
  • In good moral standing
  • High School or equivalent education
  • Enlistment in the U.S. Army
