MITRE's User Experience, Visualization and Decision Support department is seeking a Human Factors Engineer Intern to join the team during Summer 2023. The ideal candidate is one who can collaborate across teams to understand, interpret, and address user needs. In this role, you will support user research through interviews and observations, design user interfaces that fulfill user needs and help evaluate the usability of a wide range of systems.
Key Functions:
* Apply user-centered design methods to translate user needs, business objectives, and technology capabilities into exceptional user experiences
* Support user interviews and observations to elicit requirements
* Design, prototype, recommend, and evaluate user experiences for a variety of system types on a variety of platforms
Required Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a BS Degree in relevant discipline
* Experience with User Centered Design methods including heuristic evaluation and usability testing
* Ability to analyze existing systems and propose user experience enhancements
* Ability to conduct user interviews and observations and elicit requirements
* Knowledge of industry best practices
* Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Ability to influence and promote HFE to stakeholders
* Talent for creating intuitive designs that span devices and human sensory interactions
* Knowledge of task analysis methods and/or business process modeling methods
* Experience with advanced collaboration tools and technologies
* Mentoring or tutoring experience
* Entrepreneurial, innovative spirit
* Experience working in cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams
