Responsible for leading the team of Executive Directors of all HMH Foundations to fulfill their potential for attracting philanthropic support to meet the goals and objectives of company. Using best practices but allocating for differing community cultures, the SVP will provide strategic planning to assess, prioritize, implement and motivate coordinated fundraising activities of each hospital foundation as well as collectively to continually elevate major gift strategies and financial outcomes. Will collaborate and coordinate with foundation colleagues and centralized services to optimize fundraising performance. Will lead teams to cultivate, solicit, and close major and principal gifts. Will secure both private and government (state and federal) grants. Will collaborate and coordinate with SVP of Development Services on Annual Giving, Corporate and Institutional Giving, Planned Giving, Events, and Marketing and Communications. As part of a team, provide strategic coordination on a wide range of events community events to raise funds in support of programs and initiatives. Maintain a broad view and essence of the master plan that identifies the challenges and possibilities; utilizes innovative and situational thinking to create and manage groundbreaking philanthropic initiatives, programs, and capital projects. Set stretch goals to ensure continuous improvement and support of HMH facilities, programs and initiatives.
Problem solves for competing projects, industry challenges, and shifting priorities.
Ensures an organized approach for tracking the coordinated identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of major donor prospects including matching donor interests with opportunities in support of HMH.
Works with the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and develops best practices for a systems approach to major and principal gift fundraising. Works closely with the Chief Development Officer, Regional Presidents, and Chief Hospital Executives to ensure that all fundraising initiatives are encompassed within MH’s strategic vision.
Collaborates with Human Resources to enable talent management to be a key priority to our success by seeking and/or retaining high caliber talent, to meet the growing demands of the HMH network.
Works with Executive Directors, hospital Foundation Boards, CDO, and foundation peers to establish and communicate fundraising priorities, develop achievable and measurable goals for private philanthropic support, and implement actions to meet those goals.
Manage and facilitate the major gift moves management strategy and process for all Foundations, ensuring an organized approach for tracking the coordinated identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of major donor prospects.
Cultivates Board members and their relationships to recruit new trustees, identifies potential donors, and increase the overall visibility of the Foundations in their respective communities.
Works with the Boards to craft and implement a comprehensive, long-term development plan to further increase, diversify and sustain philanthropic support.
Ensures the foundations’ fundraising activities are prioritized and coordinated with the funding priorities of the hospitals to achieve the greatest potential from donors and prospects including securing both private and governmental (state and federal) grants.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Master’s (MA/MS/MBA/MPA) Degree in related fields or equivalent experience.
At least 20 years of management work experience in fundraising at a hospital or academic environment.
Expert knowledge in all areas of philanthropy. Experience in conceptualizing and implementing fundraising programs and multiple major gift initiatives.
Understand the principles of and have an accomplished track record in closing major gifts.
Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to lead successful fundraising teams.
Strong strategic planning skills with a track record of successful solicitations, including the ability to effectively research, identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and donors.
Strong financial management skills with experience in all aspects of fundraising, including major individual gifts, foundations, corporations, special events, planned giving, grateful patients (including aging and diverse populations).
Demonstrated success working with institutional leadership, physicians, trustees, key volunteers, and community leaders.
Excellent verbal and communications skills and the ability to Ask for and Get significant gifts and deliver on fund raising campaigns.
Strong written communication skills and knowledge of information technology and management information systems as it relates to E-Philanthropy.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage diverse tasks.
Proven ability to maintain best practices in fundraising through effective recruitment, motivation, coaching and staff development and team building.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal leadership and with external partners at the individual and organizational level and the ability to work effectively in a complex, dynamic and changing organization.
Highly developed human relations skills and the ability to lead and successfully mentor staff.
Licenses & Certifications Preferred:
Formal fundraising certification such as CFRE or FAHP.
