Site Reliability Engineer- GovCloud - Opportunity for Working Remotely
*This role supports customers in US Government and Public Sectors and is open to US Citizens and US Permanent Residents only.

We are seeking a talented VMware Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our team and work on the VMC on AWS GovCloud platform, supporting a growing Public Sector customer base. VMC on AWS GovCloud is a secure platform for government agencies to access the benefits of public and private clouds to further increase agility and security. This solution brings VMware's enterprise-class Software Defined Datacenter (SDDC) to the AWS Cloud with optimized access to native AWS services. As an SRE, you will have the opportunity to work with innovative technologies that integrate VMware's SDDC software with AWS's powerful cloud services. You will also be working with a team of passionate and driven individuals who are committed to delivering exceptional results for our customers. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
In the first 6-12 months of working as an SRE on our team, your performance outcomes will include:

Establishing a deep understanding of the VMC on AWS GovCloud platform and related technologies.

Developing and implementing best practices and processes for managing and maintaining the platform.

Collaborating with other teams to identify and resolve technical issues and improve the overall performance and reliability of the platform.

Providing exceptional support to our customer base by addressing their issues and concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Participate in regular on-call shifts responding to service issues
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
As an SRE on our team, you will be responsible for:

Utilizing your DevOps skills and knowledge to handle seamless upgrades of infrastructure and services through automation.

Working in conjunction with other SREs to respond to, investigate, and resolve monitoring alerts from the VMC on AWS GovCloud SaaS service.

Reviewing deployment runbooks, identifying potential issues, and working with core engineering to ensure timely and quality deployments in the production environment.

Collaborating with other service teams to ensure the platform meets customer requirements and performance expectations.

Working in a DevOps environment utilizing tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, and Kubernetes to automate tasks and improve efficiency.

Using your coding experience to contribute to the VMC on AWS operations automation software and troubleshoot issues with a modern Kubernetes based cloud services.
To be successful in this role, you should have:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
-
3+ years of experience in a similar role, with a strong background in VMware and AWS technologies.

Experience with scripting and programming languages such as Python and Bash.

Strong experience with DevOps and automation tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, and Kubernetes.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Matthew has been with VMware for over 13 years and is a technology leader in the Cloud infrastructure Business Group (CIBG). In this role, Matthew leads the Site Reliability Engineers while driving VMC on AWS GovCloud vision and strategy. Matthew has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry and is currently focused on multi-cloud management, SDDC automation, and digital transformation at VMware. His background includes expertise in datacenter and cloud architectures, system and network engineering, and leading, defining, and executing IT transformations across the US Intelligence Community and Federal agencies.
