Non-Exempt - Design Specialist Telecom Infrastructure
The Telecom CAD/GIS Specialist will use computers to generate geolocated designs of optical fiber telecom networks using CAD/GIS design software and a combination of pre-existing base maps and field survey data. Using these designs, the Specialist will create bills-of-material, establish timelines, develop budgets, and assist internal and external customers in making vital decisions about major projects.
The CAD/GIS Specialist will use technology to generate designs for complex projects. These designs will typically be 2D maps with extensive annotation. The CAD/GIS Specialist must have strong computer skills and extensive knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and GIS platforms such as ESRI or QGIS.
Communication is also an essential part of CAD/GIS design. Using the computer generated plans, The CAD/GIS Specialist must work with other team members and departments to set timelines, budgets, and assist in making decisions regarding materials that will be used to complete projects.
The CAD/GIS Specialist must know the industry. To be effective, they must have knowledge of products, engineering standards, field practices, mathematics, and the materials used to convert a plan into reality.
The CAD/GIS Specialist may be required to perform field survey work from time to time using GPS-based data collection equipment such as Trimble or IKE. Other survey equipment such as measuring wheels and range finders may also be used.
CAD/GIS Design Specialist Responsibilities:
' Use software to create detailed designs for complex projects.
' Collaborate with others to establish timelines and budgets, as well as solve problems.
' Knowledge of industry, engineering, math, and materials.
' Ability to analyze data and situations to develop creative solutions.
' Keep up to date on industry and engineering standards.
CAD/GIS Design Specialist Requirements:
' Associate degree or equivalent experience (4-year Technology or Engineering degree preferred).
' Civil engineering experience a plus.
' Sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computers.
' Extensive experience with AutoCAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred).
' Intermediate experience with a GIS platform such as ESRI or QGIS.
' Ability to master the use of electronic and mechanical field survey equipment.
' Ability to make decisions based on designs.
' Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with others to solve problems.
' Firm grasp of mathematics, engineering, and industry information.
' Some travel may be required.
