Job Title:   Vice President, Finance and Operations

Position Overview:  Reporting to the Chairman and serving as an integral member of the management team, the Vice President of Finance and Operations will be responsible for the development of Best Buddies financial management strategy and contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic goals.  In addition to the strategic components, the VP is charged with developing and implementing more sophisticated policies and procedures both in finance and general operational realms.  

Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance and 7 to10 years of experience. MBA preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry trends 
  • Non-profit or government experience preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and organizational skills 
  • Strong management skills: ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and   peers 
  • Ability to interpret financial information to make budgetary and business recommendations 
  • Responsible for integrity of internal controls 
  • Proficiency with excel and database management systems 
  • Mission driven and self-directed 

Job Duties included, but are not limited to: 

Financial Management and Oversight 

  • Develops the strategic plan for the finance department; provides strategic leadership and supervision for the Finance functions of the organization, providing guidance and direction to achieve organization needs and strategies. 
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan. 
  • Partner with the chairman on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the chairman based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis. 
  • Manage continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department leaders on financial issues impacting their budgets and the organization. 
  • Maintain proper internal control procedures.  Responsible for the recommendation and implementation of control enhancements to support a strong control environment 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the organization’s compensation strategy. 
  • Align goals of the compensation system effectively with that of the company strategy. 
  • Create a framework for internal equity and competitive advantage. 
  • Coordinates the preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. 
  • Provides timely, accurate and complete financial reports to the Chairman to inform and educate the Board.  Develops budget policy and oversees preparation of budgets for the Chairman and Board approval. 
  • Works in conjunction with the Audit Committee and manages the information and relationships of the audit process. 

Operations 

  • Works with the vice president, HR and operations in operations functions and contributes by recommending improvements, ideas and working in a collaborative manner to create efficiency. 
  • Works on I.T., database and facilities projects as needed to ensure the ongoing maintenance and updating of information systems and infrastructure 
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration that ensures that all financial, IT and HR solutions positively support the organization’s strategy, operational delivery and data collections needs. 
  • Reports to the founder and chairman and board members as needed on operations related items.
