Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
Prepare property tax renderings and reports. Analyze property tax assessments for potential adjustments or appeals.
Verify and process ad valorem tax payments. Research missing statements and generate payment requests. Maintain accurate payment records and reports.
Prepare monthly property tax provisions and support Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reporting including the annual FERC Form 2 and rate case filings .
Assist with updating the monthly forecast for taxes
Help maintain permanent tax files and records
Enhance knowledge of tax trends and best practices by reading technical newsletters, attending tax seminars and conferences, and networking with other tax professionals, both within Berkshire Hathaway Energy and outside the company.
Provide technical input to assist in development of projects and tax systems.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Working knowledge of principles of property taxation.
Five or more years of practical accounting experience, with a minimum of two years of relevant tax experience.
Some State and local tax experience required.
Familiarity with utility appraisal principles preferred.
Strong accounting and financial statement knowledge.
Strong personal computer skills; proficiency in Word, Excel and Access; demonstrated ability to understand and utilize computer systems and applications for analysis.
Leadership skills to provide guidance, direction, orientation and instruction.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including ability to create schedules and reconciliations for management that succinctly summarize the company’s tax position.
Effective interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Extended work hours will be required, especially during the planning or tax compliance filing processes or other critical times.
Overnight travel will be required (less than 10%)
