The Closing Team Lead role plays a very important part in ensure our closing team members are maintaining service levels, providing a compliant and quality closing package, and providing exceptional customer services. The closing team lead is the Subject Matter Expert for their team members and will handle complex issues related to the closing process. They will handle customer issues and work closely with our sales and support partners to ensure an exceptional closing experience for our customers. The closing team lead will mentor new and existing team members to increase productivity levels without impacting quality. The Closing team lead is also responsible for a pipeline of loans of their own. They will have a production requirement that will allow the time necessary to handle the other requirements of the job. A closing team lead will assist in the preparation and delivery of team meetings with staff. They must have the ability to mentor and motivate staff in the production requirements, compliance requirements, and business requirements of the job. This position requires in depth knowledge and experience associated with the compliance requirements relative to Reg Z, X, B Mortgage Disclosure Information Act, Home Ownership Equity Protection Act, Qualified Mortgage, Ability to Repay. As part of the closing process the closer is responsible for also reviewing, Title Work, Insurance documents, & Property Tax statements validating they meet Flagstar’s policies and to accurately prepare the closing settlement statement. This is a production based role and requires excellent organizational and communication skills to ensure closing deadlines are met while providing high quality closing document package.
Review and supervision of staff that prepares the pertinent documents required to insure a Respa compliant closing package.
Monitoring queue’s to ensure SLA is being maintained and team members are meeting daily and monthly production goals.
Conduct Huddle meetings & coaching/mentoring/training of the closing team members to ensure consistency from the Closing Services Area.
Work with Settlement Agents and sales partners to obtain any required information to complete the closing process and obtain a final HUD1 Settlement Statement.
Review and balancing of the Final HUD-1 figures for regulatory, investor, and Flagstar requirements.
Complete all required training courses and attend meetings when required as well insuring team members have completed all required training courses.
Assist in preparation and delivery of team meetings, handle difficult customer service issues, monitor and respond to emails to the closing inbox.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Completes all required compliance training. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar’s internal compliance policies and procedures. Takes responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.
High School diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent required.
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study is strongly desired.
3-5 years of closing, funding or similar mortgage banking background.
Experience with closing Conventional, FHA and/or VA products.
Knowledge of current compliance changes to Reg Z, Respa, GFE, and MDIA.
Experience closing Renovation and/or Construction loans a plus.
Experience with closing loans in the states of New York and Texas a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task while still maintaining careful attention to detail.
Ability to operate both independently and as part of a team.
