Arkema King of Prussia, PA Full-Time

Division: Process Technology

Location: King of Prussia

Situation in organization

-Contract engineering augment supporting the Central Process organization across multiple sites.

-Located in King of Prussia and functionally reporting to the Project Development Manager as part of corporate technology.

-Technically supported by Arkema SME engineers in the Central Process/Technology organization.

Job dimensions

Augment to the central process organization working on closing pressure relief device calculation gaps in order to improve process safety and audit compliance.  Scope of role will include acquiring data though proposing remediation solutions for any deficiencies.  Scope includes all sites within AMAS.  Follow all Arkema standards and industry best practices

Key Activities and responsibilities

Acquire input information

 -Collect site information such as equipment files, PIDs, U1s, nameplates, kinetic data.

-Prepare field information needed such as isometric sketches, piping diagrams, etc.

-Digest information from safety studies, such as PHA scenarios.

-Recommendations any necessary physical property lab work, such as ARC, DCS or VSP.

Perform scenario assessment

-Create scenario list relevant to the valve cross referencing PHA and any other needed documents.

-Gain approval from Arkema process owner for scenarios to be calculated

Perform Calculations

-Assess 2 phase flow scenarios

-Using Aspen or other approved software

-Document using Arkema or other approved calculation sheets

-Make recommendations for any more complex analysis, such as dynamic simulation

Approvals and Closure

-Gain final approval

-Close documentation and handover to plant

Prepare process engineering packages for remediation

 -Red line P&ID

-Valve sizing and selection

-Necessary piping or other modification (isometric)

-Alternative solutions such as HIPS (high integrity protection system -aka instrumentation alternative)

Context and environment

Will require domestic travel (50%).  

  • Supports Arkema HES policies.
  • Complies with all regulatory and Arkema standards requirements
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Training on two phase flow methodology.
  • More than 2 years industrial experience, some of which could have been obtained in co-op positions.

Demonstrated Competencies

  • Effectively organize and plan work. 
  • Works with little supervision.
  • Well versed in the laws and rules governing the design and implementation of solutions regarding chemical processes, including but not limited to federal laws regarding compliance issues, process hazards techniques, engineering standards, OSHA requirements, PSM, etc.  
  • Process engineering tools and modeling software; such as Aspen.  Interpret data to generate solutions.
  • Prepare strong reports and proposals and ability to present technical work to management   
  • Consistently meets deadlines.
  • Maintains a network of contacts that can provide expertise and support. 
  • Is recognized as a trusted resource by customers. 
  • Must consider industrial safety and process safety to be of significant importance and have demonstrated skills in these areas.
