The Business Development Manager, West Region Position

Sunnova Energy is searching for a Business Development Manager on the West Coast to be responsible for researching, contacting, and recruiting new members to Sunnova’s network of fully integrated residential solar dealers, originators, and construction partners. The right candidate for this role is a “hunter” who enjoys the planning, pursuit, and landing of new partners. The Business Development Manager will develop a plan of attack, in collaboration with management and front-line members from the account management team and execute this plan through to completion.



Business Development Manager, West Region Responsibilities

  • Analyzes the market and identifies existing dominant and emerging players
  • Develops a list of targets through research and consultations with Sunnova front-line managers, executives, and personal contacts outside the company
  • Pursues these targets and conveys the Sunnova value proposition
  • Investigates the suitability of the candidate company from the perspective of volume and sales/installation capability
  • Convinces the candidate company of the superior value proposition and product line offered by Sunnova and negotiates an onboarding agreement
  • Partners and guides the candidate company through the Sunnova qualification process
  • Completes the onboarding process, including signing the partner agreements, training and completing the activities to enable this dealer to launch with Sunnova
  • Oversees the transfer of the new partner to the Account Management team and facilitates new relationships with the new partner’s executive, sales and operations team

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance
  • 5+ years’ solar industry, home improvement sales, or financial services/product sales experience
  • Valid driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record
  • 10 - 15+ years’ experience
  • 8 - 10+ years’ manager experience with multiple reports
  • 5 - 6+ years’ senior manager experience with multiple reports
  • Public company experience
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in an energy market

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent transferrable work experience
  • Public company experience

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in outreach activities using social networks like LinkedIn, cold-calling, emailing and networking to reach the target company’s decision makers
  • Strong communication skills and ability to create relationships with outside partners; effectively influences required behavior
  • Ability to prioritize, execute and follow-up on initiatives
  • Proven record of good judgment and analytical skills, with attention to detail and consistency
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce (a plus)
  • Team player with highest degree of integrity at all times

Working Conditions

  • Estimated travel time – 25 - 50%
