JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Quality Engineer is a key member of the Quality team. The individual will be actively involved in all aspects of the Quality System and Quality Improvement Plan with the aim to meet or exceed agreed quality targets. The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Department Manager.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervisory Requirements:
    • Acts as a back up to the Quality Manager or Quality Supervisor.
    • Provides project leadership for continuous improvement complaint and corrective action teams.
    • Acts safely and ethically at all times. Upholds and acts according to our values, mission, and vision.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Project leader for continuous improvement teams utilizing Six Sigma & Lean techniques that improve key metrics - Cost of Quality, Customer Complaint metrics, Yield, Internal Audits, etc
    • Aides in developing/tracking quality metrics to report status of Cost of Quality, customer complaints, product non-conformances, MRR's etc
    • Lead/implement process improvements through the implementation of automated process controls, SPC, sampling metrics, enhanced manufacturing procedures and utilization of statistical techniques. Audit process controls implemented for compliance.
  • Customer Requirements:
    • Lead defect teams to reduce/resolve customer complaints, customer audit findings etc in a timely manner and ensure identified root cause/corrective and preventative actions are effective to prevent/reduce reoccurrence.
    • Direct/Analyze failure analysis, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • Investigate/develop reports to meet customer needs and communicate results with customers.
    • Active member of Spec Review teams & facilitate Sales and Operations with customer requirements, mfg specs & demonstrated capabilities of mfg.
    • Conduct/complete surveys for customers and certifying bodies and support monitoring appropriate measurements.
  • Quality Management System:
    • Support facility to maintain requirements for the Quality & Lab Management System.
    • Teams lead/facilitate Quality Management System RCA process.
    • Maintains the Nonconforming Material Process and develops actions to reduce nonconformances through Lean Six Sigma techniques.
    • Provides support for the Quality Management System which includes Document Control, Calibration, Corrective & Preventative Actions, Complaints, etc.
    • Manage the QMS internal audit of the quality management system. Develop action plans to address findings. Prepares for and coordinates external quality system audit.
  • Engineering
    • Support facility to maintain requirements for the Quality & Lab Management System.
    • Teams lead/facilitate Quality Management System RCA process.
    • Maintains the Nonconforming Material Process and develops actions to reduce nonconformances through Lean Six Sigma techniques.
    • Provides support for the Quality Management System which includes Document Control, Calibration, Corrective & Preventative Actions, Complaints, etc.
    • Manage the QMS internal audit of the quality management system. Develop action plans to address findings. Prepares for and coordinates external quality system audit.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field required. Metallurgy, material science, chemistry or chemical engineering degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a Quality Engineer required.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt (LSSGB/BB) certification preferred or 2-3yrs of Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Project Management experience preferred (2-3yrs).
  • Prefer experience and knowledge of manufacturing systems, the quality function and technical products.
  • Further experience with calibration, metrology and quality system auditing will be beneficial.
