Primary Purpose:

Manage the overall daily operations of the KM pulping department to provide constant availability of pine and hardwood pulp to the Paper machines and Pulp Dryer. This position assists in managing the daily maintenance as well as shutdown maintenance manning and cost control.  This person should have strong leadership and technical qualities and have energy to drive continuous improvement and cost reduction. Strong computer skills and understanding of process operations and process control is a requirement.

Duties And Responsibilities


Assist in managing overall operation and maintenance of equipment in the KM department to provide safe operations that meet or exceed the needs of the internal and external customers.  Coordinates daily activities with operating departments to meet objectives with minimal impact on other operating departments

Manages the PSM, LDAR and all environmental compliance requirements within the KM boundaries.


Manages the departmental safely program in such a manner to comply with and achieve mill safety goal of “0” OIR


Coaches, leads, develops, and assists in training hourly employees in the KM mill Department. Leads the LOTO continuous changes and is involved in the 90 day team manufacturing excellence efforts.


Develops and implements departmental goals and initiatives to supplement overall mill goals.


Troubleshoots process and equipment problems to increase safety, productivity, improve reliability, and reduce operating costs per unit output.


Works with Environmental department to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and standards. Able to access and retrieve information from the Environmental intranet site.

Knowledge and experience

Five years KM experience or Process engineering or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, (Chemical or Pulp & Paper engineering preferred) with strong operational background with demonstrated computer and technical skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with peers, supervisors, and subordinates on a wide range of issues and across departmental lines.

Must be a team player able to balance priorities to meet short and long term objectives with constrained resources from maintenance, plant engineering, or process engineering.

Must be experienced in PI, Proficy and Excel programming for use in reporting and trouble shooting process problems.
