Mechanical Engineering Intern

Overview

John Bean Technologies Corporation (JBT) is a leading global technology solutions provider to high-value segments of the food and beverage industry with focus on proteins, liquid foods, and automated guided vehicles. JBT designs, produces, and services sophisticated products and systems for multi-national and regional food companies through its FoodTech segment. JBT also sells critical equipment and services to domestic and international air transportation customers through its AeroTech segment.

JBT AeroTech manufactures and services airport ground support equipment (plane de-icers, aircraft tow vehicles and cargo loading systems), airport gate equipment (Jetway brand), and military equipment. In our Warrenton, OR facility we manufacture electric airport ground support equipment.

The Mechanical Engineering Intern works under the direction of lead engineers to conduct research projects, project designs, and project documentation.

Responsibilities

  • New product and vendor research
  • Replacement of obsolete parts and materials
  • Test of new parts and materials
  • Evaluation of cost reduction projects and efforts
  • Evaluation of proposed product improvements (Engineering Change Requests)
  • Evaluation of component specifications
  • Participation in design and software reviews and validations
  • Complete and test new design concepts
  • Drawing revisions as required
  • Routine use of Inventor 2019 CAD and Vault Workgroup 2019 PLM are required
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Junior or Senior in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): None

Additional Training: In house training as required

  • Inventor 2019 and Vault Workgroup 2019 training required.

Special Information (Travel required, physical requirements, work environment, supervisor responsibilities, safety and so on):

  • Work Environment - Primary work location will be in an office environment. Visits to the assembly line and test area will be required
  • Physical Demands - Typical daily work environment will be in an office environment. Visits to manufacturing and test areas may be required and will result in exposure to high noise levels and an increased awareness of congested work spaces and the exposure to potentially hazardous work environments normally associated with heavy duty manufacturing activities
  • Supervisor Responsibilities - None
  • Type of Supervision Position works under: (close, moderate, minimal) Intern should be a self motivated individual who will accept input and direction from multiple sources and produce required outcome Moderate supervision will be provided based on assignments
  • Errors - Intern’s work will be reviewed by members of the design team
  • Relationship Responsibilities - Various vendors and engineering team members as required.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards by properly using protective equipment, safe operation of all machinery, tools, and equipment as well as following safety rules at all times
  • Ability to work productively and cohesively in a diverse and multicultural environment
