- Pay Range: $180,000 - $220,000 USD annually
The Head of Production / Executive Producer is a key part of the local management team and focuses on fostering a collaborative environment and studio culture; working closely with the Managing Director, EP, Production team, Crewing, Recruitment and other Heads of Department.
The primary function of the role is the management and mentoring of the VFX Production team - including Producers and Coordinators - to ensure they deliver high-quality work efficiently, on time, and within budget. Working closely with the Heads of Departments, Systems and Technology to resolve issues, remove roadblocks and increase project efficiencies and margins.
This role also oversees staffing, scheduling, and budgeting while collaborating with internal teams and sister studios to optimize resource utilization. Additionally, the The Head of Production / Executive Producer plays a key role in bidding, awarding, and scheduling projects, as needed.
Main Duties
The Head of Production / Executive Producer will exhibit strong leadership and decision-making skills while maintaining excellent staff relations and a positive work environment for all employees. They will be responsible for recruitment, daily management, and appraisals of all production staff. They will mentor the VFX production team, providing advice and support on the project level. They will oversee the Scheduling / Resourcing team to ensure staff artists are scheduled and assigned to projects effectively. They will optimize staff artist utilization, minimizing project hire spend, whilst ensuring project demands are met. They will evaluate potential outsource vendors to ensure they align with Special Projects quality standards, whilst securing the most competitive rates. They will assess production needs and ensure all projects are set for success, resourced correctly and meet client delivery expectations and delivered on time and on budget. Other duties include:
- Work with producers and technology leads to define and secure project specific technology requirements including render projections, workstations, licenses, storage etc.
- Preemptively resolve issues on projects before they become damaging to the margin or client relationship.
- Facilitate the resolution of issues that arise during daily operations regarding processes, staff and resources. Includes planning, budgeting, mediation and conflict resolution.
- Collaborate with Company3’s Finishing department to support staffing and project execution as needed, ensuring seamless workflow and resource alignment.
- Collaborate with sister studios Powerhouse, Pune, SDFX, and Framestore LA to ensure staff resources within the group are fully utilized before booking freelancers.
- Meet regularly with producers to monitor project budgets, schedules and crewing and ensure that they are working within given targets, as well as mentoring producers through solving operational / production / client challenges.
- Ensure all projects meet margin targets and provide necessary reporting to senior management.
- Working closely with the Heads of Departments, Systems and Technology to resolve issues, remove roadblocks and increase project efficiencies and margins.
- Lead post project reviews, with the aim that both production and management learn from project challenges and there is continual improvement on the successful delivery of projects.
- Be a champion of the Special Projects culture; leading by example with all internal and external communication and approach to problem solving, always working in a collaborative and positive manner.
- Oversight of producer vacations, ensuring that there’s always suitable Production coverage.
- Work closely with engineering and pipeline on technology rollouts and artist issues.
- Regularly update Company 3 production guidelines and share with producers, coordinators, etc.
- Work with RM to ensure onboarding processes for all new hires are efficient.
- Work with accounting to ensure producers are providing proof of project awards, as well as confirming all approved bids in CETA.
- Overall oversight of CETA, including working with finance on bid template updates, P&L generation (when available), etc.
- Bid new projects and source leads/new work for the studio as and when needed.
The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in a supervisory or managerial role. They will bring strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, coach, mentor and motivate teams effectively under challenging conditions. They will bring demonstrated experience in staff recruitment, training, and management. They will bring extensive previous experience as an executive or senior VFX producer, with a proven track record in successfully delivering complex projects. They will bring excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to engender support and trust from all departments. The ideal candidate will also bring the following:

- Proven ability to manage high revenue budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize conflicting tasks.

- Strong desire and ability to be a change-agent, providing experience-driven recommendations with team-building diplomacy.
- Experience and interest in increasing efficiencies.
- Ability to travel as needed, and to attend client outings including lunches, events, parties, etc.
- Roll-up your sleeves, can-do attitude.
