SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Director of Development, Children's Hospital and Women's Health (Major Gift Officer III) is responsible for the advancement of the vision and priorities of the Children's Hospital and Women's Health. The Director will report to the Associate Dean of Development for the University of Maryland Medicine philanthropy team. Working as a strategic partner with the Department Chairs for Pediatrics and Women's Health, the Director is responsible for grateful patient and unaffiliated prospect engagement, including major and principal gift conversations, and stewardship of departmental donors.

The Director will raise support for innovative research, upgrades to facilities and technology, and enhancements to clinical programs and services.

Primary Duties:

  1. Work directly with Department leadership teams to construct a development vision and strategy and establish priorities to advance the vision.
  2. Develop, implement, and manage an annual development plan including setting goals, developing fundraising campaigns, stewardship, event coordination, monitoring efforts and evaluating results.
  3. Oversee and coordinate special fundraising publications such as campaign case statements and brochures.
  4. Develop an engagement plan and programming for the Children's Hospital Board of Advisors.
  5. Serve as the liaison for faculty partners, ensuring consistent levels of faculty engagement across the Departments.
  6. Motivate, guide, and educate faculty in the identification and cultivation of major and principal gifts.
  7. Meet regularly with the Department leadership teams, organizing the meetings with data-driven reporting and clear documentation.
  8. Collaborate with UMM development colleagues on institutional giving strategies, proposals, and stewardship activities.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Experience: Five (5) years of philanthropy experience with at least two (2) years managing prospects in higher education or equivalent fundraising experience.

Preferred Experience: Professional experience supporting development work in an academic medical center and/or grateful patient fundraising experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of position requirements, applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.

Hiring Range: $116,000 - $130,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
