Quality Engineer (Streetsboro, Ohio)
Our client, an Industry Leader in Plastics Extrusions (construction sealing profiles), is currently hiring for a Quality Engineer. This position is a Direct Hire role.
The Quality Engineer serves the organization in 3 key areas; 1) as the primary internal contact to manufacturing to monitor processes & identify and solve quality problems in manufacturing &/or measurement with the goal of implementing improvements, 2) plays a key role interfacing with Sales & Engineering in the APQP & product launch/ validation processes, & 3) serves to audit & improve the
quality management system.
Quality Engineers must understand process capability and the use of SPC in monitoring manufacturing processes, and also, they must be able to discover and understand the process issues, and develop effective countermeasures including process or product changes when necessary to ensure that quality standards are up-held and the customer’s requirements and expectations are met or exceeded.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Develop, implement and maintain the systems used to measure, monitor and control product and process quality in the production process.
Work with design teams and manufacturing teams to institute quality standards for products and associated production processes.
Perform process simulations.
Manage cost and time constraints.
Perform risk assessments.
Provide process documentation and operating instructions.
Support customer inquiries on product quality, environmental, regulatory compliance.
Play a key role in APQP processes, assist with new product/ process launches.
Prepare PPAPs / FAIRs according to customer & organizational requirements.
Monitor processes & participate in product & process continual improvement activities.
Analyze SPC, inspection & other data in supporting QMS, process, product improvement.
Develop, maintain, and improve documents related to the QMS- control plans, PFMEAs, etc.
Support supplier development & qualification activities.
Serve as internal auditor & support internal audit process.
Assist quality team with gage & calibration systems, GR&Rs.
Prepare annual revalidations according to customer requirements.
Train production & quality personnel on measurement methods.
Bachelor's or associate degree in the sciences, technology or related field.
3-5 minimum years of related experience.
Experience developing, implementing and maintaining the systems used to measure, monitor and control product and process quality in the production process.
Implementation and monitoring of process controls such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), and other problem-solving tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5 Why, 8D, Cause and Effect / Ishikawa diagrams etc., and implementing effective countermeasures to prevent issues from re-occurring.
Solid grasp of quality management tools & methods- and control plans such as- GR&R, PFMEA, etc.
Basic knowledge of formal quality systems (ISO9001, IATF16949 or AS9100 preferred).
Thorough understanding of quality principles and product and process evaluation and control.
Must be well versed in the use and application of problem-solving tools, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
Capable problem solver & decision-maker.
Technical competence, analytical skills in data analysis & MS Office applications.
A self- starter, ability to work with limited supervision.
Organized, ability to manage competing priorities.
