SUMMARY

Under generaldirection, is responsible for working closely with Facilities and Maintenancemanagement personnel to implement and administer hazardous materials/waste andrecycling receipt, packaging and shipment deliverables and regulatorycompliance activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   This is not intended as a comprehensivelist; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major dutiesand responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all dutieslisted, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Conductall operations so as to mitigate adverse environmental impacts (e.g., spillcontainment, contamination, etc).

  • Receive,sort, package and prepare hazardous materials/waste and recyclables forshipment and final disposal or recycling per applicable federal and stateregulations.

  • Ceasework and take immediate actions, as necessary, to address environmentalcompliance issues and notify management.

  • Interfacewith Facilities/Environmental personnel and management to resolve environmentalissues.

  • Ensurehazardous materials, waste and recyclable requirements and goals have beenidentified, met or exceeded.

  • Continuouslymonitor the site for environmental protection/compliance related issues,initiate measures required to mitigate identified issues, and update documentsaccordingly.

  • Responsiblefor taking annual Storm Water samples

  • Responsiblefor maintaining materials and supplies for Water/Waste Treatment areas

  • Responsiblefor working with outside Lad scheduling and taking samples

  • Ensurespecific environmental controls are maintained throughout the facility.

  • Conductand document daily environmental inspections as required.

  • Demonstratessafe work behavior at all times.

  • Readand follow operating instructions and record data.

  • Useall required safety equipment.

  • Monitorall Waste Water Treatment Plant operations.

  • Exhibitgood leadership.

  • Performroutine maintenance work on valves, tanks and related equipment and facilities.

  • Tankentry and clean, including climbing ladder.

  • Mustbe able to work independently with little direct supervision.

  • Readand adjust instruments, valves, and pumps.

  • Transportdrums using appropriate equipment.

  • Operateforklift.

  • OperatePumps: Centrifugal, Positive Displacement, Air Operated Diaphragm, and Gear.

  • Generalhousekeeping, sweeping, trash removal, water-blasting, painting, cleaningequipment.

  • Treatand pump waste water.

  • Thisposition will train lower classified Waste Treatment Operators.

  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Candidates must possess AssociateDegree in wastewater technology Grade 1, 2, and 3 in California wastewater treatmentoperator certificate or equivalent and at least three (3) years of full-time work experience inthe field of hazardous waste management and/or training; or equivalentcombination of education and experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current Hazardous Waste Operator’s 40 HrCourse Certification (HAZWOPER) or equivalent nationally recognizedcertification in waste management, or other environmental discipline, oreligibility for certification. Desired Certified Hazardous Materials (CPESC).
