Department of Maryland State\\\nPolice\\\nMotor Vehicle Division\\\n9500 Mitchell Road\\\nLaPlata, MD 20646\\\n

Main Purpose of Job

The position\\\nfunctions as a Police Pursuit Vehicle Specialist and is responsible for the\\\nrepair and maintenance of all Police Pursuit vehicles owned by the Maryland\\\nState Police, State Fire Marshal's Office and Vehicle Theft Prevention Council.\\\nThis position maintains vehicles which will at any given time; have to exceed\\\ntwice the posted speed limit, in all weather and road conditions. Tis position\\\nensures the safe and reliable operating condition of all Police Pursuit\\\nvehicles. The safety of the Trooper as well as the motoring public traveling\\\nthe Maryland roadways is critical.\\\n

POSITION DUTIES

Replace, repair or\\\nrebuild components on MSP vehicles and schedule preventative maintenance.\\\n\\\n\\\nDiagnose and repair\\\nmechanical/electrical malfunctions. Properly install, repair or replace\\\nelectrical police equipment such as emergency lights, sirens and shotgun racks\\\nwithin time limits.\\\n\\\n\\\nRoad test vehicles to\\\ninsure the safe operating condition.\\\n\\\n\\\nPerform minor welding\\\nwork, cutting torch work and operate a drill press.\\\n\\\n\\\nOperate all computer scan\\\ntools, to diagnose repairs.\\\n\\\n\\\nPrepare necessary\\\npaperwork on completed repairs.\\\n\\\n\\\nOther duties as assigned\\\nby supervisory or Command personnel.\\\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the\\\neighth grade.\\\n\\\nExperience: Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing\\\nmotor vehicles or equipment, one year of which must have involved\\\nresponsibility for performing major automotive repair work.\\\n\\\n\\\n\\\n\\\nNotes:\\\n?\\\n1. Graduation?from an\\\naccredited vocational/technical high school with a major in automotive\\\nmechanics, or a related field, may be substituted for up to three years of the\\\nrequired experience.\\\n\\\n\\\n2.?Candidates may substitute\\\nU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in\\\nMechanic?classifications or Automotive Maintenance Technician and\\\nVehicle?Maintenance specialty codes in the Mechanic or Maintenance field\\\nof work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.??\\\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:\\\n\\\n\\\n\\\n1)???Three years' experience repairing and maintaining all aspects of\\\nan automobile.\\\n\\\n\\\n\\\n2)???Current or previous experience completing major repairs to\\\nengines, brakes, suspension and electrical systems.?\\\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned\\\nduties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such\\\nduties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in\\\nthe State of Maryland.\\\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.? Employees in\\\nthis classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance\\\nwith Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\\\n?\\\n2.? In accordance\\\nwith Section 2-204 (b) (6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates will be\\\nsubject to an initial drug screening, a physical examination and a complete\\\ncriminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent\\\nappointment can be made.? A criminal conviction may be grounds for\\\nrejection of the candidate.\\\n

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum\\\nqualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is\\\nessential that you provide complete and accurate information on your\\\napplication. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible\\\nList categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain\\\neligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.\\\nThe list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.\\\n

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will\\\nconsist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the\\\nrequirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications\\\nsupplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all\\\nexperience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be\\\ngiven a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background\\\ninvestigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.\\\n
