The opportunity:

Multi Packaging Solutions is a $2 billion, global provider of custom, high end packaging solutions to some of the world’s leading consumer brands. We are currently seeking a Human Resources Manager for our packaging manufacturing facility in Lansing, MI. This facility spans across two business MPS businesses: Horticulture & Packaging.

The HR Manager will work closely with the senior leadership at the plant to ensure the organization is achieving its short and long-term goals for the facility. The HR manager will ensure all HR services are being delivered to a group of over 500 employees. This includes a broad spectrum of services such as: employee relations & communications, training & development, compensation, recruitment, staff planning as well as performance management.

This individual will also advise senior leadership on HR policies and procedures and be heavily involved with any change management initiatives.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Lead key initiatives and provide solutions for employee relations, organizational development, performance management, workforce planning and talent acquisition. Design and lead initiatives which serve to advance the agenda of the function and ensure we have strong programming in place to attract, develop and retain the talent and capabilities needed to meet business objectives.
  • Work with Learning & Organizational Development and others to identify training needs and solutions for the plant as well as individual leadership coaching needs.
  • Support effective employee relations within the team by advising on the appropriate deployment of HR and compliance policies and the development of a culture of positive employee engagement.
  • Oversees all aspects of a multi-functional HR Department including Compensation, Employment, Benefits, Training, Safety and Health, Employee Relations, Talent Management, and Labor Relations.
  • Lead HR processes and introduce improvements that have positive business impact and measurable ROI.
  • Responsible for developing and continually improving the safety and health processes for the facility and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Conducts periodic training on applicable topics including sexual harassment, diversity, and employment law.

    What you need to succeed:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline
    • Five to eight years of experience in a fast-paced HR role, with prior plant or manufacturing experience
    • Broad experience in employee relations, organizational development & planning, talent management consulting and compensation/rewards. Demonstrated ability in applying functional knowledge to drive business challenges.
    • A “hands-on”, self-motivated and goal-oriented individual who is an agent for positive change and innovation, inspiring employees to the highest standards of performance through frequent communication, good management practices, performance measurement systems, and leadership.
    • A proven ability to take initiative to anticipate customer needs and recommend actions to address challenges.
    • Proven business and financial acumen, able to work with credibility and influence functional leaders.
    • Strong communications and ability to work in a matrixed environment; ability to build and maintain strong partnerships across multiple areas and geographies.
    • Professional negotiating skills
    • Ability to investigate and assess employee conflicts objectively and solve such issues using a variety of methods and tools, including coaching and conflict resolution
    • Skilled user of Microsoft Office and Excel
    • Strong organizational, analytical and project management skills
