IC&A Engineer

Situation in organization

This position is in the Maintenance & Reliability Department and reports directly to the Senior I&E Engineer.

Job dimensions

The IC&A Engineer will oversee the IC&A maintenance/reliability initiatives and interface with the appropriate maintenance and manufacturing groups to ensure the highest level of safety, productivity, work quality and reliability for all instrumentation, electrical and analyzer maintenance/reliability activities.

Key Activities and responsibilities

* Oversee troubleshooting, repairs, calibration, and new installation tasks for instrumentation and controls work - 90%
* Drive instrumentation reliability by reviewing recent failures and past history to provide recommendations for improvement
* Analyze bad actors and Top 10's to drive improvements for instrumentation
* Evaluate and maintain the PM strategies for instrumentation equipment
* Recommend spare parts for reliability-critical equipment
* Develops and implements instrumentation safety and skills training for Maintenance personnel
* Contribute in the ongoing development of instrumentation standards that will maximize reliability, efficiency, design, and minimize required spare parts inventory
* Review and update procedures
* Identify capital projects necessary to maintain and improve the plant instrumentation. Submit project requests to Project Engineering and assist in implementation of the project.
* Lead development of future automation projects through oversight of strategy, design, programming, maintenance, and HMI software/programming
* Install, remove, perform maintenance and design for implementation of control/interlock strategies as well as troubleshoot and correct (hardware and software) problems for DCS, PLC, PI and Process Control Networks communications
* Evaluate the Control Systems PM programs and provide technical support by identifying and presenting alternatives and recommendations.
* Assist I&E Supervisor and Technicians in troubleshooting instrumentation issues.
* Support Turnaround activities
* Provide guidance with calculations and design safety instrumented systems (SIS). Oversee troubleshooting, repairs, calibration, and new installation tasks for analyzer work
* Assist in troubleshooting, repairs, calibration, and new installation tasks for electrical work - 10%
* Assist I&E Supervisor and Technicians in troubleshooting electrical issues.
* Will interact with other technical groups on site, corporate technical peers and vendors as needed to resolve problems and improve the overall plant reliability and performance

Other Duties as Assigned:

* Attend meetings (safety, maintenance planning, reliability, and production)
* Monitor IC&A maintenance spend
* Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis and Incident Investigations
* Perform cost analysis for repair versus replacement of equipment
* Participate in HAZOP hazard analysis
* Ensures that IC&A equipment and spare parts are ordered as needed and validate spare parts are maintained appropriately
* Manage the quality and cost associated with IC&A work performed by outside repair shops
* Publish monthly reports for management pertaining to productivity, equipment repair status, project status, reliability and forecasting
* Provide coverage as needed to support electrical distribution engineer

* Follow and adhere to the maintenance work process and repair procedures
* Must adhere to the Arkema Electrical Safe Work Practices Policy and Guidelines for the CLO site
* Must be available to work extended hours, weekends, holidays and after hour
* Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
* Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
* Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
* Understands and Supports the Clear Lake Facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience:

* B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of engineering experience in IC&A
* Computer skills required
* Knowledge of a broad range of industry standards including NFPA, API, ASME, and ISA standards
* Knowledgeable in all types of industrial instrumentation and process control loop systems
* Basic knowledge of inline process and environmental analyzers and their functions
* Skilled in interpreting electrical diagrams/schematics and loop drawings
* Skilled in Instrument, Controls and Analyzer terminologies and maintenance processes
* Strong experience with industrial computer systems, motor control, PLCs and DCS. Experience with analog and digital signals, HART Protocol and process communication network systems.

Demonstrated Competencies

* Good written and oral communication skills to interface with operations and maintenance personnel
* Ability to follow maintenance procedures for equipment
* Ability to read, understand and utilize equipment drawings and P&ID's
* Works well in teams
