Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Commercial Relationship Manager based at our Irvine office. The position offers a highly competitive base salary plus an uncapped commission plan. The Commercial Relationship Manager will call on prospective lending clients within a specified region within the Bank's footprint. The incumbent will establish and maintain a robust pipeline of new client opportunities and manage those opportunities from discovery to close. The business development process will be well developed through a network of COI's and/or direct solicitation to uncover CRE and C&I financing needs. Adding value and differentiating Mechanics Bank in the highly competitive commercial banking space will be a key success driver in this role. The incumbent will be able to work independently and will meet or exceed the goals of the job with minimal oversight and/or direction.

What you will do:
  • Actively call on new prospective clients to create and maintain a robust pipeline of new opportunities. Effectively balance client needs with Bank capabilities to create a balanced lending solution.
  • Review and interpret client financial information to identify trends, strengths and any financial issues. Identify relevant economic, industry and business specific factors that may impact past and future performance.
  • Prepare accurate and informative credit memos for presentation to management and credit. Appropriately structure the credit request according to Bank guidelines and suggest pricing that both reflects risk and the marketplace.
  • Initiate and manage the end-to-end processes for loan originations. Take a team approach in assisting credit analysts, underwriters, and closing team in creating a seamless and effective credit origination process while striving to exceed client expectations.
  • Once a portfolio has been established, work closely with the PM team on portfolio management including annual reviews/renewals, covenant tests and any other necessary or appropriate action.
  • Participate in industry, civic, and community events (as appropriate) to build and maintain a network of referral sources for new business lead generation.
  • Will partner with colleagues (Mortgage, Treasury, Wealth) to introduce additional bank solutions to Bank clients, as appropriate.

Who you are:
  • Minimum 5 years Commercial Lending and Business Development experience in the banking/financial services industry.
  • Must be able to structure and underwrite commercial credit, make solid credit recommendations, identify and mitigate credit risk.
  • Self-directed in managing daily activities in accordance with achieving expected performance.
  • Possess the ability to drive the process, manage and prioritize multiple client loan requests, deadlines and other tasks.
  • Utilize critical and creative problem solving skills.
  • Have a consultative approach in client acquisition and management.
  • Support an environment that fosters teamwork and enhances task accomplishment through cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Express ideas effectively and respectfully in writing and verbally.
  • Make clear, concise presentations and demonstrate superior credit skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout designated territory as necessary.
  • Apply effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to cope with the pressure that arises from a performance driven role.
  • Demonstrate a high level of cooperation in managing workflow.
  • Be honest and accurate with an attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively without daily supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Consistently demonstrate tact, discretion and good judgment.
  • Exhibit high degree of professionalism and confidentiality in handling and having access to sensitive information.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Be motivated, enthusiastic and professional.
  • Able to comprehend and apply Bank policies and procedures.
  • Proficient with MS Office and Outlook.
  • Undergraduate degree preferred
