The Finance Director will define the processes and implement the financial infrastructure/systems needed to support our mission and strategic plan while reporting to the Executive Director as well as be an integral part of the leadership team.
Build and manage effective and streamlined administrative/financial systems.
Hands on responsibility for all financial aspects of the organization.
Apply principles of accounting to complete individual analytical projects in a satisfactory manner given abstract project guidelines.
Oversees the payroll, general ledger and general accounting functions providing payroll services, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, corporate and governmental reporting, financial data analysis, and formal auditing and tax preparation.
Manage the investment portfolio on a transactional basis and management of all fund documentation.
Maintain the accounting and the investment activities to include recording monthly investment activity, producing a quarterly investment report, and present to appropriate Committees.
Serve as liaison to our investment managers.
Prepare cash projections by month including monitor cash and investment requirements and report to the Executive Director, Treasurer and financial oversite Committees.
Organize and coordinate the compilation of annual budgets to include timeline, budget worksheets and assistance in preparation for the Finance and Executive Committee.
Manage the accounting procedures for government and foundation grants awarded to include award management, expenditure requirements, reimbursement, as well as reporting and auditing.
Work with Directors and team leaders to analyze actual performance against budget and report variance reasons at both department and executive levels on a monthly basis.
Design and revise monthly financial statements. Ensure data and reporting accuracy.
Organize and coordinate the annual audits including schedule preparation, data collection and reporting and report to appropriate Committees.
Responsible for the results and success of the Financial Services Team to include hiring, performance management, training, coaching, and team results.
Participate on various Committees providing financial direction.
Participate on Executive Director’s leadership team and other programmatic teams as needed.
Other duties as assigned. Finance Director Non- Profit Background Profile:
BS or MS in Finance, Accounting or relevant field.
CPA certification highly preferred but not required.
Minimum 5 to 8 years progressive applicable work experience in a nonprofit organization.
Demonstrated proficiency in financial planning, financial data analysis, GAAP accounting, cost accounting, and payroll with some not-for-profit and fund accounting experience.
Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team and with Society volunteer leadership and membership.
Experience with automated Accounting / ERP systems such as: Great Plains Dynamics required.
Experience with GP Management Reporter, Crystal Reports, SQL, and IMIS preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft office Excel and Word.
Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.
Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting.
Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency.
Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail oriented.
