* Tesla is seeking a skilled Plant Design Engineer to support the design and construction of a variety of new and renovations to existing industrial, manufacturing, and office facilities in our high tech facilities across the U.S
* Responsibilities Perform/Review pressure vessels (Compress/PV Elite) and piping (CAESARII) calculations meeting ASME Sec VIII, Div. 1 and ASME B 31.3 requirements. Perform local stress analysis of complex geometries using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Convey the design intent (design sketches, package, material requirements etc.) to CAD designers / drafters and review inhouse and vendor drawing submittals Get actively involved and provide input in the review of process equipment, vendor selection, and subcontractor services. Make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement Perform analysis of steel structures used to support mechanical equipment and piping systems (e.g. pipe racks, skids, platforms, building type structure etc.) , along with the creation of justifying structural calculations Generate and review detailed designs of bolted and welded connections and interface connections between structures and mechanical equipment Generate/Review foundation loading chart and anchor design for the structure. Provide project and field construction support as necessary: including troubleshooting and/or evaluation of existing mechanical systems and structures. Review and comment on incoming vendor documents (calculations, drawings, data sheets etc.) to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes/specification/practices Ability to develop conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand Conduct walkdowns with site representatives to verify proper installations Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts
* Requirements Bachelor's/Master's Degree in mechanical / structural engineering with 5 + years of experience in designing industrial facilities and plants Active P.E. license & NCEES records preferred Experience with mechanical design of pressure vessels and piping with software such as Compress, PV Elite, Caesar II Experience with Finite Element Analysis package like ANSYS (Static structural, thermal and fatigue analysis experience preferred) Expertise with structural analysis software like STAAD Pro / STAAD connect, RAM Connect
