Job Summary

We're looking for a creative, driven and experienced executive producer to oversee live daily news programming for Cheddar's general news channel, Cheddar Big News. The executive producer leads the live news coverage during their shift mostly from the control room; manages the editorial team of producers, writers, bookers and production assistants; develops story ideas and offers innovative suggestions for story coverage. A sophisticated knowledge of general news including politics and business news is necessary, paired with a broad cultural awareness, and an instinct for what's trending. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and independent worker. At the same time, he or she must be adaptable and flexible, a team player who is able to mix easily and work effectively in our small, scrappy and highly collaborative team.

Responsibilities

* Manages staff of line producers, segment producers and writers.
* Leader in the control room overseeing editorial content.
* Develops newsroom workflow to produce the best coverage in the most efficient and creative manner.
* Generates exceptional story ideas, including breaking news and creative story angles.
* Writes news scripts for live programming.
* Makes certain all elements (video and audio) meet quality standards.
* Fills in for producers as needed.
* Produces special programming as needed.
* Writes, edits and coordinates coverage as needed.
* Generates story and coverage ideas on a daily and long-term basis.
* Follow through on all assignments meeting required deadlines.
* Acts as an effective liaison and advocate between the producer team and other departments within the organization.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum 5 years of experience in programming development, people management and operations at an entertainment, news or media company
* Experience in overseeing traditional and/or new media content and programming development with demonstrated expertise in building, maintaining and growing targeted niche markets
* Highly effective team leader with the ability to guide a team of content producers and collaborating with other News 12 channels
* Hands on experience and expertise in all phases of television and digital production
* Exceptional writing and story development skills, with the ability to coach and mentor young talent and production teams
* Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and meet strict daily production deadlines
* Must be able to work weekends and nights during production windows with an ability to handle high volumes of complex projects and tasks
