To achieve these objectives we are seeking an experienced Associate Director to join our Platform team and lead the group responsible for our Design System, HELIX, along with a group of 7 experienced designers and strategists that include a product manager and Agile scrum master.

As the Associate Director for the Platform Design Systems team you will:

  • Build out our Design System across the enterprise, driving quality, accessibility, and technical robustness of our end-user experience, while creating the internal tooling to make the design system a delight to use.
  • Establish best practices, elevate the system itself across mobile, tablet & desktop, and advocate for its adoption and continuous evolution.
  • Take a systems mind-set to build and integrate consistent, efficient components across product portfolios. Emphasis will be on the complete systems lifecycle, from establishing a practice and vision that endures to design, build, document, and maintain a library used by multiple design teams.
  • Define and drive a vision and roadmap for the Design System working with Experience Designers, Product Partners, and Developers.
  • Lead the visual and technical direction of the interaction design, visual style, and technical tooling, with input from peers in experience design, product design and development teams.
  • Attract, lead, grow and mentor a highly collaborative, high performing cross-functional experience design team.
  • Drive collaboration, transparency, and clarity across multiple teams and functions, while fostering a culture of user-centric design.
  • Be accountable for the broader business strategy behind the Design System and articulate outcome metrics for its success.
  • Enable scale by establishing processes, selecting tools/platforms, defining success metrics, and ensuring the team’s long-term health and success.
  • Implement governance that enables designers and developers to engage with the design system and contribute toward its evolution and adoption.
  • Reports to our Digital Platform Executive.

You’re a person who has (required skills)

The WHAT

  • 10+ years in one or more of: product management of web-based sites and/or applications, information architecture, interaction design, or front-end development across both mobile and web
  • 3+ years managing design and/or front-end development team(s)
  • Familiarity with working across platforms and understanding the relative merits and constraints of those environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, collaborate to solve problems, clearly presents ideas and solutions, and keep colleagues and stakeholders informed.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to continuously learn, adapt, and evolve.
  • Experience developing and implementing a global design system across platforms (web, mobile) along with its corresponding Design System Manger (DSM)
  • Sketch, InVision, CS, for design specs as well as a range of prototyping & simulation tool expertise
  • Championing and growing a user-centric culture including usability and accessibility standards and practices.

  • Master’s degree in design or related discipline
  • Experience establishing and growing an enterprise design language system
  • Financial or similar industry experience
  • Mastery of directing human-centered design methodologies through the complexities of multi-channel service delivery
