Job Description


Long-term, Full-Time Need (Contract-to-Hire)

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Design Engineering Manager


Provides technician-level support to Design Engineering and the Production floor as needed. This will include new product prototype assembly, first-build of sub-assemblies, creating and maintaining work instructions and test fixtures. Provides accurate and critical feedback to Design Engineering in verbal and written format. Coordinates new product introduction to production floor: BOM verification, assembly documentation validation, and training of production assemblers to ensure successful product release and high-quality product.

Maintains tooling records.


  1. Assists in testing and evaluation of company and competitive products.
  2. Provides prototyping technician support, including initial assembly of electrical/electronic and mechanical assemblies, debugging, first article inspections, first build. documentation/evaluation. Makes recommendations to Design Engineering for improvements and changes.
  3. Provides technical and process support to production floor as directed.
  4. Participates in design engineering/production handoff exercises for new products to verify BOM integrity, identify assembly tooling and fixture requirements and the development of work instructions.
  5. Oversee the organization of the Engineering Lab, Equipment upkeep and calibration. Part cabinets organization, and project workspace.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Education and experience requirements include: An associate's degree and 5-10+ years prior technician experience in a design or manufacturing engineering environment including engineering support to design activities and production floor. Ability to manage assigned tasks to meet required deadlines are essential. Experience with 3D CAD software and MS Office is required. Verifiable ability to perform board-level electronic assembly, rework and repair, e.g., populate bare PCBs with components, troubleshoot and repair PCBs and other electronic assemblies, build wire harnesses, wire electrical/electronic components, assemble mechanical structures. Ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical assemblies is required. Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing attention to detail. Working knowledge of Visual Basic is desired.
