Education and Experience:
Completion of elementary school and preferably be a high school graduate. CNA certificate required.
CPR certification is required.
Verbal and written ability to communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team.
Maintains harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and other hospital departments.
Ability to handle stress in a positive manner.
Shows interest in job and is dependable to complete job duties.
Ability to understand theory and practice in nursing.
Completes assigned tasks (for example: assist patients with ADLs, record vital signs, feeds or assists with meals, transport of patients, transport of specimens) efficiently and accurately.
Performs job duties in a kind and courteous manner throughout each customer encounter.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks (physician orders, call lights, answering telephone calls, bed turnover, patient/specimen transport).
Consistently maintains composure and adjusts to workflow changes to meet patient care needs.
MED TECH – Performs accu-check monitoring, assists with dressing changes, and removes INTs. Follows TCRH policies and procedures in completing these duties.
Follows directions from charge nurse, and/or manager.
Participates in development and attainment of departmental goals to improve customer service.
Demonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.
Pursues additional tasks at own initiative.
Maintains EOC standards by knowing and following procedures in emergency management, hazardous material management, life safety, fire safety, infection control and security.
Possess the knowledge to safely provide assigned care to patients.
Complies with regulatory requirements and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Maintains patient, hospital, and physician confidentiality according to HIPPA/ TCRH guidelines.
Works as scheduled, without unplanned absences.
Arrives on time and ready to work.
Productivity – ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.
Orders placed appropriately to ensure accurate charges.
Consistently displays a mature and responsible demeanor.
Consistently communicates to co-workers, medical staff, ancillary departments, and customers to promote a collaborative and cooperative environment.
Completes/attends all required in-services and unit staff meetings.
Responds constructively to feedback from charge nurse/ leader to perform job functions.
Demonstrates competence in performance of each essential job function to provide quality patient care.
Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
Competently works with Paragon applications (computer system).
Consistently keeps unit/ patient care areas appropriately stocked with supplies.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Standing, sitting, walking and bending (45-90 degree angles) are required.
May require stair climbing.
Requires assisting in lifting up to 300+ pounds (with assistance) or turning patients, and assisting actively in patient care. Must be able to transfer patients involving pushing stretchers, wheelchairs, and beds containing patients and the lifting of equipment and supplies.
Speech, hearing and visual acuity necessary in order to perform job requirements.
Exposure to blood, body fluids and hazardous wastes is moderate to frequent, and must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy.
May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment.
Must be able to read and write.
May be exposed to bad weather when escorting a discharged patient to their vehicle.
