Receives request for bid specifications from customers for capital projects. Researches the bid specifications to determine all customer requirements. Develops the price to quote for this part using the estimating program and by working with purchasing and vendors for outside prices as needed. This includes soliciting prices from subcontractors as needed. Prepares the customer proposal and completes any customer supplied bid forms as required. Follows up with the customer on status of the bid. If awarded a project, manages the project through completion.


  • Assist in development of pre-project approval documents including project charter, project management plan, project kick start, estimate and milestone schedule creation.
  • Monitor design progress and deliverables are met in adherence to established project key components.
  • Receive design details from design team with full understanding of project deliverables to coordinate bid package development and release for construction bidding and field execution.
  • Direct and execute installation, construction and commissioning of assigned projects.
  • Manage adherence to project scope and secure approvals for all changes in projects based on engineering ways of working methodology.
  • Manage and control project budget providing cost forecasts and cash flow projections through development of project cost and status reports on at least a monthly basis or as requested by project stakeholders.
  • Receive telephone or written customer requests for bid.
  • Attend pre-bid meeting at project site or other location as needed.
  • Research the customer specifications to determine requirements for the project. This includes technical items, installation schedule and subcontract requirements.
  • Prepare the project estimate using computer system. This includes analyzing and entering subcontractor prices.
  • Review the project sell price with the department head to determine final price.
  • Complete the bid forms and/or prepare a bid letter documenting scope of work, including commercial terms.
  • Submit the proposal to the customer by the due date.
  • Follow up with the customer during the bid analysis stage and address any clarification questions.
  • If awarded an order, enter the order in the jobs/quotes database, prepare accounting cost summaries and transfer scope of work information to engineering and purchasing and manufacturing as needed.
  • Prepare contract review documentation and hold job progress meetings as needed throughout the project.
  • Prepare subcontract agreements as needed.
  • Address contract change orders when they arise. Communication scope of work changes internally as needed.
  • Work with accounting to prepare invoices and monitor payments.
  • Create and maintain a project schedule for each project.
  • Close out project when complete.
  • Create and maintain an Open Issues Matrix log with regularly scheduled design review meetings.
  • Demonstrate ability to work professionally as a team player and willingness to assist others.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • May require working extended hours, weekends and/or holidays.
  • 35% travel. Travel may last for extended time periods.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned or that become necessary to fulfill the company’s responsibilities and needs with respect to its business.


  • A BSME or BSEE technical degree or 3-5 years of related engineering work experience
  • At least 2 years work experience as an estimator is also required.
  • Must have good communication skills to be able to determine customer requirements.
  • Must have a strong technical comprehension skills to be able to read, understand and analyze customer bid specifications and engineering drawings to define requirements.
  • Must be able to understand financial cost summaries to be able to make decisions to increase project margins or control cost overruns.
  • Must be able to use a computer including having typing skills and experience with word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Must be able to work independently and willing to travel extensively.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to be able to work on several projects simultaneously and keep orderly records using company procedures.
