Neuromodulation

Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum.

As a Manager of Market Research & Insights you will be a high-impact, highly visible expert on what our direct and indirect customers are doing and saying, and passionate to understand the why behind their behavior. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Marketing & Operations, you will skillfully create appropriate methodologies, execute primary research (quantitative and qualitative), and be a true change agent for the business. In addition, you will:

Own the prioritization, planning, development, and management of relevant and accurate market insight and research activities that inform positioning, product/service development, and pricing and marketing strategies, across the Neuromodulation portfolio.

Manage the businesss overall market research budget, advising the business as to trade-offs in investment vs return from research into different product lines, using different methods, undertaking research at different times, and more

Develop market research prioritization framework than can be implemented across the portfolio

Plan, coordinate, and deliver internally- and externally-oriented market research, involving hypothesis development, design, validation with stakeholders, and programming (where needed) of surveys, interviews, and focus groups

Transform data into actionable insights, deliver clear recommendation for evidence-based decision-making across the business

Test hypotheses using quantitative and qualitative testing methodologies

With the support of Analytics, investigate research results using an array of products and tools, adjoining disparate data sets as needed to provide meaningful insights

Clearly articulate research findings, converting complex data into clear recommendations, visualization, and written reports with strong storytelling skills

Influence the business via cross-functional partnerships, collaborations, and relationship building, working closely with business partners to create strategies for the business that are grounded in data and customer insights

Convert project priorities into market concepts, and test validity in the market to ensure capital is being allocated to winning projects

Based on outputs of market insights, collaborate with Upstream Marketing team to align insights with potential marketing concepts

Team with Upstream Marketing to understand which concepts are validated by the market to move projects with market support from the ideation phase to the research and development phase of the product lifecycle

Stay in tune to market and competitive dynamics in order to inform long-term research pipeline and business strategies

Understand competitive launch pipelines and substitute product availability, including product specs and value props and how those may shift customer behavior

Advise the business of critical happenings in the market to drive informed strategic decision-making across the business

Were excited about you if you have:

5+ years of directly relevant experience (e.g., conducting market research, consumer insights, management consulting) ideally 2+ years of which were spent supplier-side with exposure to large-scale engagements and execution of research across a wide range of topics/industries

Experience leading market research and familiarity with brand and customer analytics, including partnering with cross-functional teams to triangulate data and insights

Highly knowledgeable in quantitative and qualitative research methods including sample design, fieldwork management, data analyses

General exposure to or understanding of Healthcare or Life Sciences industries including product development/innovation pipeline and marketing development timelines ideally with related business experience in marketing, communications, business development, brand management, consulting, and/or analytics

Able to think both analytically and creatively balance left and right brain people person as well as data person

Well-versed in distilling complex data down into key insights in order to tell simplistic, cohesive stories

Excellent communicator with proven track record of influencing business decisions/strategies

Confident in designing and managing your own projects with minimal oversight able to live in the gray and deal with ambiguity

Competent in survey programming (e.g., Focus Vision Beacon, Qualtrix, etc.) and statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, R, STATA, SAS etc.)

Available for travel (up to 20%) and/or local fieldwork

First 30 days:

Familiarize yourself with the business, our therapies, and our products (both tangible and intangible/digital)

Gain an understanding of past market research to get a flavor of historical business needs

Undergo training programs

First 3 months:

Understand Abbott and competitive near-term pipelines

Become versed in 5-year outlook and expectations around evolving competitive landscape

First 6 months:

Develop market research prioritization framework in coordination with Upstream marketing stakeholders

Build out process for review of and alignment on projects for market research prioritization

Develop market research excellence process prioritization, plan for stakeholder alignment on study design and questions, study vendor requirements, alignment on deliverables/output, cost, benefit to the business

First 12 months:

Implement market research excellence project by delivering on prioritized market research projects

Compile learnings/opportunities for improvement from 2023 in order to continually iterate on best practices in 2024 and beyond

Make budget/requirements recommendations for 2024
