The accelerator complex provides proton beams at up to 120 GeV for high-energy particle physics experiments through a linear accelerator, two synchrotrons, two fixed-energy rings, and several kilometers of beamline. DC and pulsed power systems are used to energize particle accelerator and beam-line magnets throughout the accelerator complex, as well as in accelerator test facilities. These operational power systems generate voltages as high as 100 kV pulsed or DC, output currents as high as 300 kA pulsed, and precision regulated currents as high as 10 kA. The division is also involved in the design and future operation of a new superconducting-RF linac being constructed by the PIP-II project, and of the neutrino production beamline and target station for the Long Baseline Neutrino Facility in addition to smaller continuing improvements.

You Will:

* Serve as a technical subject matter expert for electrical safety on both low voltage distribution and end user equipment within the Fermilab Accelerator Division
* Evaluate electrical safety issues and concerns and provide recommendations to resolve or address electrical safety issues working with the AHJ
* Modify existing or generate new single line diagrams at the 480 VAC level and lower
* Create and maintain arc-flash documentation
* Work with accelerator, operations, and power systems experts to develop and maintain Accelerator Division electrical safety procedures
* Assist with other safety documentation, such as configuration control lists, related to accelerator operations
* Interface with the laboratory Environment, Safety & Health Section
* Maintain safety standards and practices for the division
* Contribute optimally within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab's dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion

We Are Looking For:

* Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, Science or a related specialty field, and a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Expert knowledge and work experience in the determination and control of hazards in a research environment
* Expert knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, ANSI, and other pertinent federal and state regulatory requirements
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar for technical documents and presentations
* Ability to work in a team environment with matrixed co-workers, balance workloads with changing priorities
* Understanding of power systems and their use in particle accelerators is preferred
* Possess a valid drivers license and be able to work with occasional call in responsibilities
