PTAG is seeking a Health & Safety Environmental Specialist to assist the Owners Project Delivery Team to oversee various projects such as rebuilding and upgrading existing aged lines plus installing new transmission lines in north eastern states of the United States. The projects are estimated to take 4-5 years to complete with possible extensions.

Location: North Eastern States

Type of Employment: Contract

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Health, Safety and Environment technical and functional support to project operations
  • Administer project health, safety and environment policies and procedures within the framework of the project’s HSE Program
  • Liaise with project management, clients and outside agencies
  • Coordinate the project HSE effort and assure compliance with safety requirements
  • Propose programs to implement the accomplishment of short- and long-range project HSE objectives and to initiate the motivation for employee participation needed to realize these objectives
  • Review the design in all disciplines to ensure HSE compliance with best practices and standards and codes
  • Develop the technical engineering solutions related to HSE appropriate for purpose and effective cost
  • Coordinate activities related to HSE on construction sites and in engineering offices
  • Coordinate and participate in engineering activities related to HSE in order to support the job site activities, including training programs
  • Remain cognizant of issues and challenges facing the project and coordinate the strengths, resources, and capabilities to achieve the project’s goals and objectives as related to HSE
  • Maintain a current knowledge of all health, safety and environment policies and procedures and knowledge of federal, provincial and local safety regulations
  • Contribute to the creation, evaluation, training and administration of the HSE program to all levels of employees
  • Conduct surveys, evaluations, inspections, audits, training, meetings and investigations as required
  • Achieve productivity and other performance related goals
  • Comply with all Company and departmental policies and procedures including all Health, Safety, and Environment policies
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Demonstrating behavior that reflects professionalism and respect, and represents Company’s best interests

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred
  • Completed formal training in OHS, Environment, Loss Prevention, Process Safety and Security
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience as an HSE Engineer with familiarity managing the HSE function on complex and/or large projects, Transmission & Distribution projects would be an asset
  • Understanding HSE engineering activities, and have Loss Prevention experience
  • Ability to implement Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) programs
  • Apply advanced skills to resolve complex HSE problems independently and displays a high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-functional problems
  • Understand a wide range of health, safety and environment and social issues such as climate change, sustainable development policy and practice, environmental/health and safety legislation, pollution prevention, air quality/noise, water and energy efficiency
