This newly created executive position requires a unique mix of strategic execution to align business development resources to new and organic growth opportunities, process leadership to monitor, manage and focus resources, and capture expertise to help mentor staff as well as take a hand in leading the delivery of new work. The ideal candidate will drive strategic planning within our Digital Services BD team, ensure process and operational excellence across the team, take reasoned risk to secure new business while ensuring captures are well-managed and repeatable. The VP of BD will engage functional experts to identify and qualify new opportunities based on a defined “Go-to-Market” strategy, develop in-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape, while driving business development lead generation, funnel management, partnership formation, and awards.
Develop a strategic business plan to grow the digital services business by defining target markets, identifying and qualifying new business opportunities
Manage a team of seasoned business development leaders to capture new business for current and emerging opportunities
Create a network to pursue business opportunities, partnerships and alliances that enhance current capabilities
Provide guidance in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s)
Ensure business leadership and excellence is maintained by managing and participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent
Oversee the assessment of potential business opportunities through a light-weight but effective and agile capture process
Guide business development opportunities from beginning to end
Lead and manage execution of capture activities to ensure strategy, costs, schedules, and performance goals are met
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, science, or engineering or related field
7+ years of experience in a Business Development position leading teams and projects
Five years managerial experience selling service solutions to DoD and Federal customers
Proven experience developing and implementing a Strategy for business growth
Demonstrated successful track record for leading highly competitive captures and proposals
Management experience responsible for Budget and Personnel
Demonstrated access to key government customers and industry partners
Experience developing and leading high performing teams
Experience with DoD budget, investments and acquisition processes
Proven leadership skills to develop, organize and execute significant capture activities
Ability to establish rapport, define expectations and gain commitment to project goals and deliverables
