POSITION PURPOSE-

Specialty Pharmacy location-Fort Wayne, Indiana

Under the direction of the VP, Chief Pharmacy Officer, is responsible for strategic direction, financial performance, and operational management of the Trinity Health Specialty Pharmacy located in Fort Wayne IN. The position responsibilities include, and are not limited to: hiring, coaching, mentoring and appraising performance of management; establishing multi-year strategic and annual operating plans; planning, assigning, and directing initiatives in support of the annual operating plan; addressing operational and quality improvement initiatives with respect to the Trinity Specialty Pharmacy. A colleague in this role partners with Integrated Clinical Services and regional ministry leaders - operational and clinical - in support of Specialty Pharmacy Services. Serves as the Specialty Pharmacy resource for Ministry organizations and system office staff.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision and Values in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions.

Serves as the lead expert resource and consultant for Specialty Pharmacy Services for Trinity Health.

Directs the development and implementation of short and long-range objectives, policies, procedures, budgets, strategic and operating plans for the Specialty Pharmacy program ensuring alignment with System strategies and goals. As approved by Executive Management, oversees consistent interpretation, implementation and achievement of growth of the organization in terms of revenues and new business opportunities in the Specialty Pharmacy channel.

Develops and manages all key specialty operational systems, including, but not limited to: a) benefits verification, b) referral and order entry, c) pharmacy and medical coverage eligibility, d) prior authorizations, e) billing and collections, f) dispensing and shipping g) purchasing and inventory control, h) specialty therapy management.

Directs the development and implementation of information systems; intellectual property regarding operating systems and processes; clinical services and patient care support to achieve optimal patient outcomes; development and integration of operations knowledge into systems that drive physician loyalty and pharmacy decision support.

Leads all specialty drug activities relating to definition of the product line(s) and the operational, clinical management, patient support and administrative capabilities required to support and effectively execute the line(s).

Reviews, revises, and coordinates the inclusion of Board of Pharmacy regulations and professional standards of accrediting organizations into the patient service procedures. Monitors and evaluates patient satisfaction.

Builds ongoing marketing and provider relations initiatives with regional payors and other targeted health plans to create awareness of Specialty Pharmacy as the preferred supply channel for benefits investigation, patient support services, and pharmacy distribution.

Works with health plans, other insurers, pharmacy benefit managers, employer groups, unions, government, and other third party programs to coordinate Specialty Pharmacy and associated Disease Management Services, relevant provider fee schedules, dual coverage issues, and client reporting activities.

Builds and executes focused marketing initiatives to help patients, physicians, employer groups, unions, etc. recognize and easily utilize the services of Specialty Pharmacy.

Represents Specialty Pharmacy to leadership, industry and trade groups, key physician providers, representatives of government and regulatory agencies, brokers, and the general public.

Ensures specialty pharmacy's continuous accreditation compliance through assessment, gap analysis, action plan and timeline development, communication with key stakeholders and collaboration for implementation of corrective action.

Serves as the primary resource regarding all applicable accreditation standards (URAC, ACHC, etc.) standards and continuous quality improvement principles.

Develops and maintains the requisite quality plan(s) in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and accreditation standards

Manages the development and deployment of annual accreditation training to all Specialty Pharmacy Associates to ensure meeting accreditation requirements

Monitors relevant quality measures and if results not within performance requirement, immediately review current program interventions and identify root cause, and recommend action steps to achieve desired results. Monitors trends and performance metrics to ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Develops and refines quality improvement activities using relevant accreditation standards.

Manages investigation of potential quality issues, and implementation of appropriate and timely actions or recommendations.

Represents Trinity through work with local, state and national pharmacy organizations related to Specialty Pharmacy.

Handles unanticipated events and crisis situations in a constructive manner.

Collaborates with key stakeholders to create ownership in decision-making.

Challenges, motivates, evaluates and stimulates colleagues toward the achievement of goals and objectives.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy and Specialty Pharmacy Operations.

Advanced education such as Pharm.D. Degree or MBA in Health Care.

Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with a proven track record of successful leadership in the healthcare field.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in operational leadership and team management within a Pharmacy.

Licensure by a State Board of Pharmacy is required.

Experience using word processing, database applications, desktop publishing, spreadsheet software required.

Strong communication, analytical, organizational, negotiation and leadership skills. Ability to articulate opportunities and be a change agent.

Demonstrated abilities in the area of project management.

Able to effectively work with other clinicians on multi-disciplinary teams

Able to manage multiple tasks.

Ability to understand and meet relevant accreditation and licensing requirements in assignments.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment. Working environment requires an ability to meet deadlines with frequent interruptions, ability to work under pressure, ability to manage changing priorities.

Some travel to meet with other related parties is expected, including some overnight travel. Additional time commitment may be required to complete work responsibilities. Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities, and be able to prioritize and balance the requirements of working with the System Office and Regional Health Ministries (RHMs).
