Under the general direction of the Manager, HR Operations and guidance of the Lead Payroll Administrator, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for administering the payroll processing function and related activities for the company to ensure efficient and effective payroll processing in compliance with state and federal regulations. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues and requests for employment verification. Collaborate in payroll system design changes and implementations. Maintain, audit and update payroll and related systems. Perform related duties and activities as appropriate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the preparation and processing of Company payroll(s); review and ensure accuracy of payments; track and deduct garnishments and other special payroll deductions. Maintain levies and garnishment documentation in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
Participate in the entry and accuracy of employee data in Oracle HR and Ceridian’s HR/Payroll Web application including personnel changes, tuition reimbursements, etc. Work collaboratively with benefits and HR staff to ensure transactions flowing into the payroll system are valid and accurate. Collaborate in the detailed auditing of payroll data, including the reconciliation of payroll files, to ensure accuracy. Analyze, investigate, and correct errors as required; audit system output and standard reports to determine and correct out-of-balance conditions.
Serve as a point of contact for internal personnel to resolve any issues or discrepancies related to payroll, benefits, and/or payroll taxes. Promptly respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues and requests for employment verification.
Provide guidance and assistance to operations and management staff on payroll practices in line with Company policies and federal/state law.
Participate in projects, suggest and implement ideas for continuous improvement. Assist Lead Payroll Administrator to create and maintain process documentation.
Level of Education and Discipline: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting or related field.
Amount of Experience: 3 to 5 years related experience
Certifications: CPP Certification is desired
Type of Experience: Payroll experience for an organization with 100+ employees; knowledge of federal, state and local wage and hour laws; strong background in automated payroll systems and reporting queries; and experience in full-cycle payroll processing. Proficiency in MS Office, including intermediate skills in Excel required. Experience working with Oracle HR and Ceridian is strongly desired.
Additional Skills and Abilities: Requires the ability to work effectively under time constraints, deadlines, and pressure while demonstrating strong customer service skills. Must possess strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required with the ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently. Strong and accurate data entry skills required. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
