Hughes Network Systems, an EchoStar company, has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Strategy and Market Intelligence - SATCOM. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown MD.


Tracking the satellite ecosystem

  • Carefully track and report on the evolution and trends of the satellite broadband ecosystem. This will include such things as: Satellite operator business models and strategies
  • Investments in the ecosystem including constellations as well as ground technologies
  • Evaluation of 5G NTN as well as related evolving standards that have the potential to impact the satellite ground system business
  • Assess and refine demand forecasts for various market segments including cellular backhaul, internet access, aero and maritime mobility, IoT and other market verticals
  • Identify and track regional specific market dynamics and how they impact the market environment
  • Based on your deep understanding of Hughes product portfolio and long-term roadmap, identify threats and opportunities at short/medium/long-term.
  • Share insights and actionable recommendations with relevant internal groups
  • Through knowledge and actions, position yourself as a satellite broadband expert and a go-to resource for Sales and other internal groups involved with the satellite broadband business.

Accessing the competitive landscape

  • Monitor key players within the satellite broadband eco-system (competitors, customers, influencers, technology vendors, partners…):
  • Identify potential partners and competitors
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to develop market insights and competitive differentiators that will feed our messaging and positioning in each region and for key customer segments.
  • Push relevant information to the Sales and Product Management teams to drive product and service development
  • Analyze key deal wins and losses from a competitive standpoint and push lessons learned and recommendations to Sales and Product Management teams

Thought Leadership

  • Communicate internally and externally on key topics to raise internal awareness and position Hughes as a thought leader in the industry.
  • Push insights and provide updates to internal stakeholders on key trends
  • Working with the Marcom group, assist in the creation of external thought-leadership social media content and publications
  • Maintain the sales tool kit consisting of product presentations and product messaging

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 12+ years of experience in business development, marketing analysis, and marketing intelligence preferably in the satellite or wireless industry
  • Detailed knowledge on the satellite communications industry with particular expertise on ground systems as well as satellite operators
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical and business-related subjects to all audiences
  • Enthusiastic, action oriented, able to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and business audiences
  • Possess excellent technical aptitude and a desire to learn constantly
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
