Position Summary: 

Supervise Engineering experts and manage the Embedded Software Development process for Data and vision systems at Bendix. 

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and drive the software development team on projects, activities, and process improvements related to vision and data systems for commercial vehicles. Sets goals, priorities, and allocates accountabilities of the team.
  • Coordinates with product leads in establishing priorities based on customers' needs and critical milestones for software releases and work breakdown.
  • Clearly communicates milestones to stakeholders and drives forward the team to meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ensures the team interfaces with other Software Engineers, Hardware Engineers, Web, mobile, database and Product Engineers throughout all phases of development.
  • Drives the analysis of industry standards, customer and related product specifications to derive software requirements and ensures traceability
  • Ensure software quality in the application of software development processes.
  • Lead the team to provided software support for FMEA, DVPR, Fault-tree analysis, functional safety, software security and other related engineering activities.
  • Supports the design and implementation of policies and standards in software engineering from a corporate level. Oversees compliance and maintenance of software procedures and policies associated specifically with Vision and Data systems on a local level.
  • Manage the overall and individual team’s performance to ensure full technical support to the product team. Conducts performance reviews and assists in making engineering hiring decisions.
  • Acts as management escalation point concerning arising issues and to communicate with internal and external customers on mission critical issues
  • Provides senior advice to the teams, according to technical competence.


  • Application of embedded microcontrollers and related peripherals
  • i.MX6 or ARM-9 a plus
  • The use of cross compilers, assemblers, and related software development tools
  • Software configuration management systems such as git or subversion.
  • Developing software test plans and test cases (module, integration, systems, functional, performance, and stress)
  • Vehicle communication networks for heavy duty vehicles (J1939, J1587, ISO 14229, LIN a plus
  • Managing engineering projects
  • Understanding of software development techniques and methodologies (ASPICE, MISRA, SEI CMM, ISO26262)
  • Developing software test plans and test cases (module, integration, systems, functional, performance, and stress)
  • Test automation tools
  • Objected oriented design patterns, Unified Modeling Language (UML), Message Sequence Charts (MSCs)


  • 5+ years’ experience in people management and coaching
  • Embedded Linux experience preferred
  • Automotive product systems integration experience preferred
  • Use of Six-Sigma tools and processes a plus.
  • Cyber Security and cryptographic experience a plus

Technical Skills 

  • Standard embedded communication protocols (e.g. SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Bluetooth)
  • Knowledge of wireless protocols (WiFi and Bluetooth) is a plus
  • Proficiency with multi-threaded re-entrant C/C++ programming 
  • Real time embedded C, C++ and assembly programming experience
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PERL or Python.
  • C++11 or above a plus
  • Higher level object oriented languages such as Java or C# a plus.
  • Experience in using modeling and simulation tools (MatLab, Simulink, ASCET) a plus.
  • Experience in using Vector CANalyzer, CANdela, CANope, CANoe tools a plus.
  • Knowledge of Yocto Linux and OpenEmbedded a plus
  • Knowledge of digital image processing a plus
  • C-Unit, PC-Lint, Polyspace, Axivion Bauhaus, Enterprise Architect, AUTOSAR

  • Ability to develop and use early warning indicators and other analytical tools for situation assessment or changing conditions, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Strong ability in establishing milestones, project planning and implementation (execution skills) while meeting commitments; able to prioritize, schedule, and plan; anticipate obstacles and manage risks in multicultural, internationally diverse and matrixed environment.
  • Familiar with system level design, incorporating both electrical and mechanical components.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


  • Bachelor’s Degree REQUIRED; MBA preferred
  • Green Belt Certification preferred
