Mechanical Engineer - ERC

Skill Set Requirements:

The Mechanical Engineer

  • Should possess a strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software and drafting procedures, electrical manufacturing, trouble-shooting, inventive problem solving and be a skilled reviewer of schematic/engineering drawings.

  • Experience with missile telemetry and printed circuit board manufacturing a plus.

  • Capable of understanding thermal transfer and dynamic vibration properties of printed circuit boards.

  • Possess the ability to understand tolerance requirements and process capabilities of machined metal, cable harnesses, rigid-flex printed circuit board, rigid printed circuit boards, high temperature plastics and fasteners.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in MS Office with the ability to work within a team environment.

  • Possess knowledge of how to track, evaluate, and drive project execution by focusing on key milestones.

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university and 3 years of applicable experience.

  • This request will support two (2) Mechanical Engineer positions.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.


Description of duties:

The Mechanical Engineer will serve as the mechanical expert on an interdisciplinary team packaging new development instrumentation for missile airframes.

They will fit and constrain printed circuit board design early in the layout to maximize the probability of success in dynamic environment qualification.

Design dynamic qualification fixtures and assist qualification planning in cooperation with other disciplines to include electronics design, thermal analysis and dynamics.

They shall be expected to defend qualification levels and fixture design to external organizations to include program management offices and range safety engineering.

Design cable harnessing in cooperation with electrical engineering.

The Mechanical Engineer shall be expected to draft interconnect, design work fixtures and define connector orientation and keying features.

They shall work with lead integrators of missile airframes to plan cable mounting points, bulkhead feed-through and overall cable integration.

Design and constrain instrumentation kits to integrate into missile production lines.

The Mechanical Engineer shall work at the beginning of an effort to gather the needed technical data and prepare for missile integration.

They shall travel to production locations to witness build-up and use of special tooling.

They shall work through the entire design process to ensure successful final integration.

They shall actively engage suppliers and other disciplines to optimize tolerance and work toward more producible designs.

The Mechanical Engineer will also review all program schematics and engineering drawings to verify current versions and accuracy.

They will review and verify all program test procedures, practices and systems to ensure current methods are documented and accurate.

2006 – ERC is competitively awarded the nine-year Research in Propulsion Sciences 2 contract to support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Propulsion Directorate at Edwards Air Force Base, California. This is the follow-on contract to ERC’s Research in Propulsion Sciences contract awarded in 1998. ERC’s support on RPS-2 includes scientific and engineering research as well as development and testing related to rocket propulsion.
ERC is competitively selected by Jacobs Sverdrup (JS) to support Johnson Space Center’s White Sands Test Facility’s Test and Evaluation Contract.

2005 – ERC receives the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Region 4 Sub-Prime Contractor of the Year Award.

ERC is competitively selected by Jacobs Sverdrup (JS) to support Johnson Space Center’s Engineering and Science Contract. Support involves engineering and technical support including a broad range of activities in the Engineering Directorate and the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Office.

ERC is competitively awarded the Technical Support for Propulsion and Structures Directorate contract. This contract is a follow-on to two previously ERC held contracts.

ERC is competitively selected by JS to continue our support to Marshall Space Flight Center’s Engineering, Science, and Technology Services Contract.

ERC receives the SBA’s Administrator’s Award for Excellence.

2004 – ERC receives NASA’s George M. Low Award.

ERC is competitively selected by Jacobs Sverdrup (JS) to support Stennis Space Center’s (SSC) Test Operations Contract. Support includes development, construction, and operation of test systems of various test programs at SSC as well as Marshall Space Flight Center.

ERC’s President/CEO, Dr. Ernest H. Wu, receives the Asian Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Engineering Category) from Asian Enterprise Magazine.

ERC’s President/CEO, Dr. Ernest H. Wu, receives special recognition for his commitment to Oakwood College and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

2003 – ERC is awarded Marshall Space Flight Center’s Contractor Excellence Award in the small business – service category.

ERC is competitively selected by Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE) to support Marshall Space Flight Center’s calibration laboratory. Support involves all electrical and mechanical system calibration.

ERC is competitively awarded the follow-on contract to the 1998 award from the U.S. Army Redstone Technical Test Center (RTTC). The support includes missile component testing in laboratories and electromagnetic effects testing of missile and aircraft systems.

ERC receives SBA’s Administrator’s Award for Excellence.

ERC achieves annual revenue milestone of $50M in sales with 70% of sales from contracts with ERC as the prime contractor.

2002 – ERC is awarded a five-year contract with the U.S. Army Redstone Technical Test Center supporting the Firing Test Division. This contract consists of test, evaluation, and analysis support for aircraft mounted systems, missiles and warheads, and development of data acquisition and telemetry systems.

ERC competitively wins the follow-on contract to the 1998 award to support the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Commands Propulsion and Structures Directorate. Propulsion systems supported include solids, liquids, and gels.

2001 – ERC is competitively chosen by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) to support the Jet Propulsion Laboratory with network engineering, network administration and system administration.

ERC was a part of the Jacobs Sverdrup team that received NASA’s “Software of the Year” award for work performed at Marshall Space Flight Center.

ERC is re-awarded a sole-source support contract to Marshall Space Flight Center to support the Reusable Solid Rocket Motor Project Office.

2000 – ERC acquired heavy construction assets. The new commercial division, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), specializes in engineering design and construction services.

Designated by U. S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research as Year 2000 "Star Team"

ERC begins work in system administration in Pasadena at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and in Denver at Lockheed Martin Astronautics under the Consolidated Space Operations Contract (CSOC) contract awarded to Lockheed Martin by NASA.

ERC is competitively selected by Sverdrup Technology’s MSFC Group to support Marshall Space Flight Center in Advanced Space Transportation.

ERC is nominated for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.
