Summary: Operates and maintains water treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in ground water treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements.

  • Tends automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed equipment, sludge processing equipment used to treat and odor control and vacuum filters used to decontaminate waste water by settling, aeration and sludge digestion. 

  • Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow.

  • Monitors flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units in assigned area.

  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance related items as assigned

  • Monitors and records operating conditions observations and data in area shift log. Ensures conformance to process specifications. Diagnoses basic operational problems.

  • Performs manual labor including filling and emptying of machine bins and cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds as required.

  • Performs minor maintenance including, but not limited to, routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments.

  • Operates vehicles for plant operational purposes.

  • Performs field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.

  • Samples wastewater, sludge and gases (odor control, digester, etc.) according to schedule.

  • Performs routine lab tests.


Qualifications
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have good math skills with the ability to perform water related mathematical calculations.

  • FL Class C or B Water license required at minimum, higher level licenses are preferred. 

  • A minimum of one year experience in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of wastewater treatment or equivalent training and experience desired. This can 

  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and operate plant process equipment to meet or exceed process and quality targets.

  • Must demonstrate ability to learn and operate process equipment such as pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed, disinfection equipment, sludge processing belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform laboratory analytical testing procedures, interpret results, and recommend or make process chemical dosing changes as needed.

  • Must be able to follow laboratory QA/QC procedures, complete chain of custody forms, and enter laboratory data into a computer data base.

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to use HMI software from a SCADA system terminal to perform process control functions.

  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for data entry for MORs and other regulatory compliance data.

  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

  • Must be able to serve rotational shifts.

  • Must demonstrate ability to lead a shift in the absence of a Plant Lead Operator III in an emergency or for vacation relief or on a temporary basis in case of a vacancy.

  • Must be available for 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
