Workdays & Hours:   8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday*    *Subject to Change
  • Provides simultaneous interpretation of verbal communications from one language into another in a court of record.  Ensures all parties understand the information exchanged.
  • Provides written translation of documents/communications (i.e., legal documents, correspondence and official announcements) from English to a second language, or vice-versa, for a court of record.
  • Provides information to non-English speaking customers or visitors by telephone, electronic mail, and in person.
  • Performs general clerical/administrative duties as required.
  • Assists with special projects as requested.
  • Ability le to travel to multiple court locations; sometimes on short notices. 
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
Requires an Associate degree in a foreign language or a field relevant to the work being performed.

One year of experience in interpretation and translation. Must be dual language proficient in both verbal and written communications and have knowledge of courtroom and/or legal terminology.
Substitution:  Two years of pertinent experience may be substituted for the above education requirement.

Must have a valid Master-level Court Interpreter license issued by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission of the State of Texas.Preferences shall be given to candidates who have a valid Master-level Court Interpreter license, strong organizational and customer service skills, computer proficiency with Office 365 programs, and written/verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish. Courtroom experience is also preferred.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6**.SELECTION / SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
  • Candidates must submit to a criminal background check
  • Department may administer skills assessment test
If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
