Based in the Kansas City, Missouri area, this opening for a Controller is a full-time position. This position is for candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. You will succeed in this position if you can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. How you will make an impact


- Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible


- Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed


- Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time


- Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll


- Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities


- Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports


- Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management


- Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle General Ledger analysis


- Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies


- Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis


- Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)


- Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes


- Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds


- Strong attention to detail


- BA/BS in Accounting


- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred


- Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges


- Vow to meet business deadlines


- Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued


- Prepare Financial Statements experience required


- Demonstrated knowledge of Balance Sheet Reconciliation


- General familiarity with Oracle


- Internal control review experience


- Adeptness in general ledger


- Internal Control experience


- Solid understanding of month end closings


- Deep understanding of budget forecasting


- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel


- Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus


- CPA/MBA highly preferred


- Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
