Position Description

Apex Systems is searching for an experienced SDET for a role with one of our large financial clients in Charlotte, NC. This person will be a key contributor on the CIA (Customer Information Analytics) team. Our client currently has a centralized testing team for the entire enterprise but CIA now needs an internal resource to lead SDET practices specifically for CIA to speed up deployments. This role will be hands on and responsible for working side by side with developers and test leads for CIA application testing. This person should be familiar and comfortable working in a Hadoop/Big Data environment with a focused background API automation testing.

Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) – Responsibilities

Day to Day:

This resource will be working on business requirements and writing code to make it functional. They will also be analyzing the data before writing this code, which is written in combination of: unix shell script, spark, HIVE, Impala, Java, or SQL Query.

Job Description:

  • Build test scenarios and acceptance tests for the stories in the Product backlog
  • Setup, maintain, operate test automation frameworks, and test data pipelines
  • Perform test automation on multiple application types –  APIs, Hadoop, and SQL
  • Investigate customer problems, referred by the Business or Sustain
  • Create and manage defect reports and communicate with the team
  • Handle platform/application specific technical communications with Product owner, team members and stakeholders
  • Work with developers and the Sustain team in resolving application
  • Write SQL queries to analyze data sets and identify data anomalies


  • Knowledge of various test methods and corresponding tools like JUnit, TestNG, Selenium WebDriver, etc.
  • Knowledge of Java, SQL, Python or other programming languages
  • Experience of working in an AGILE + DevOps delivery environment
  • Proven problem-solving skills, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Understanding of Object-Oriented design principles
  • 2+  years’ experience in delivering test automation at the unit, business logic, and integration level testing
  • Strong SQL experience
  • Great communication skills
  • Shell scripting/Unix experience
  • Working knowledge on querying large data sets, data sampling and identifying anomalies in data
  • Knowledge of HUE and Impala – Spark would be a plus
  • Actively monitor post-release metrics to identify any defects that may have slipped through the cracks
    • Write tests that expose the defect before any fix is attempted
  • Evaluate existing testing methodologies and suggest new techniques that will help deliver high-quality features faster
  • Improve, maintain, and execute automated testing across the full solution stack
  • Maintain a solid understanding of QA workflows and test automation best practices
  • Maintain proficiency in application and use of systems, tools, and processes
