The Plant Controller is responsible for all accounting for specific manufacturing plants located within their region/business unit. The key functions of this position are: timely analysis of cost data for materials, labor, and manufacturing expenses; calculate, review and maintain standard costs; maintain proper inventory valuations; review and provide commentary for actual versus budget performance; preparation of plant related journal entries/accruals; participate in weekly/monthly Operations and Finance meetings; drive ERP system and physical process improvements to the cost setting cycle; generate reports and provide explanations for variances; monitor and control outside process activity with the purchasing and inventory teams; monitor all ERP inventory transactions; and perform other tasks as required.
Prepares reconciliations, commentary and journal entries for various manufacturing transactions including inventory adjustments, cycle counts, etc., and ensures reviews are in compliance with SOX documentation and approval requirements.
Analyzes manufacturing variances including material consumption, labor & overhead changes and purchase price variances, and provides guidance to the operations organization for variance reduction.
Provides support to the operations groups in reviewing and understanding data related to work centers, routers, costing roll ups and data integrity. Additionally, partners with operations for reporting information, cost analysis or other decision support ongoing as needed.
Prepares month end check list of SOX requirements, and distributes various reports as necessary including the monthly departmental budget package and damage analysis for operations.
Monitors and coordinates outside processing activities with purchasing and tracks consigned inventory. Reconciles and coordinates monthly actions needed on the open receiver payables clearing account.
Participates in US obsolescence reviews with product managers and coordinates the disposition of inventory with the operations team. Prepares the obsolescence analysis, records necessary journal entries, and communicates any reserve changes to the Global Manufacturing Controller.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 5 – 7 years standard cost accounting and manufacturing experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and formulas
- Strong analytical skills and experience; explaining cost fluctuations
- Detail oriented and committed to accuracy
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- CMA or CPA preferred
- 6 – 9 years general accounting experience
- ERP expertise, PeopleSoft preferred
- Global organizational experience
