Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s and teacher certificate in some area other than special education or Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in a special education program with at least 9-12 credits preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field and 2 years of experience with people with developmental disabilities or substitute teaching in a regular education classroom.
  • Enroll in a Pennsylvania-approved certification program leading to a Level I Certificate in the subject area of this Emergency Permit/Act 97 Waiver if requesting Type 01, 02 or 03. Begin PDE-prescribed program coursework and/or testing
    requirement.
  • Remain continuously enrolled and complete the following amount of coursework for re-issuance:
  • When Date of Initial Issuance is:                                          Semester Hours to be Completed
    • Between August 1 and December 31                                9 hours, by August 31 of the following year
    • Between January 1 and June 1                                          6 hours, by August 31 of the same year
  • Experience in classroom management and/or development and implementing programs for students with developmental disabilities or related experience
    preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to lift/transfer a minimum of 50 pounds, be agile, physically pursue clients on foot, physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, reach,
    push up and stand for several hours at a time.
  • Act 34 Criminal History Background Check Report, Act 114 FBI Criminal History Report & PA Child Abuse Report.

Overview

Responsible for the design and implementation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student assigned to the classroom. Responsible for assessing the functioning level of each student and for developing and implementing goals and objectives based on this assessment. Responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the program and participating in the students’ interdisciplinary IEP team meeting.



Responsibilities

  • Assesses the functional, learning and performance levels of each student as they relate to the motor, cognitive and social skills required for classroom activities and prepares
    appropriate reports.
  • Writes functional educational goals based on individual student needs in accordance with state and federal laws and Woods Services policies.
  • Prepares and implements daily written lessons plans.
  • Develops and implements a variety of formal and informal teaching methods and techniques as determined to be appropriate for each student in accordance with the
    approved IEP/IHP/ISP and client assessments.
  • Establishes and uses objective data collection systems and approved Progress
  • Monitoring systems to help ensure that students are making adequate progress on IEP goals and objectives?
  • Develops and implements individual student behavioral programs, as appropriate and in accordance with Woods Behavior Management policy.
  • Devises and obtains instructional materials and assures the proper maintenance of these materials.
  • Maintains and utilizes adaptive/assistive equipment and devices.
  • Implements, directs and assists with proper feeding, toileting, positioning and care of students.
  • Completes all required paperwork in accordance with Woods and program policies and procedures.
  • Models positive behavior and interaction; adheres to all Woods Services policies.
  • Maintains a positive, safe, healthy and controlled learning environment; ensures supervision of all assigned clients.
  • Assists with student transportation, before and after school, if necessary.
  • Directs activities of instructional aides and assures implementation of established instructional procedures.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings and faculty meetings as requested and/or scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
