The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all engineering aspects of the Azusa facility to include hazardous waste storage, processing, treatment, appropriate disposal, health and safety, compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies, and the hiring, training, and performance management of maintenance employees. Establishes annual goals and objectives and maintains profit and loss ratios. Writes and reviews capital project estimates, proposals, and contracts. This includes working with vendors and contractors to develop and manage both maintenance and capital projects within the facility, laboratory, and field services and administration buildings. In addition to the Azusa facility the engineer is responsible for overseeing engineering projects and maintenance operations in our Colton, CA medical waste processing facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares annual budgets and reviews forecasts.
Enforces all compliance, health and safety, and other pertinent compliance issues in accordance with regulatory policies.
Maintains a professional image to internal/external customers by answering inquiries and suggesting solutions to potential problems.
Oversees compliance with all OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all other governmental regulations.
Implements all required training courses as required by OSHA, as well as update refresher courses instituted by Veolia.
Oversees accuracy of all federal and state agency regulations.
Oversees operation of all equipment including maintenance to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
Regularly reviews contract bids and pricing of cost ratios, accuracy of terminology, and preparation prior to reaching an agreement of contract specifications.
Provides a safe and compliant work environment.
Minimum 3 Years experience in maintenance engineering required
BSME (Mechanical Engineering)
ASME Piping Experience-Preferred
Knowledge of API vessel and piping standards -Preferred
Experience with Flammable solvents-Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Knowledge in the following areas: DOT, EPA, DTSCA, and OSHA required.
Capital Project maintenance experience required.
Understanding of PLC control Systems (Allen Bradley preferred)
Mechanical and electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting experience
Basic understanding of facilities engineering including: HVAC systems, plumbing, utilities, etc.
Basic understanding of electrical principles, AC and DC systems
Basic understanding of diesel/automotive/forklift maintenance and repair requirements
Hands-on maintenance operations management experience (preferred)
Process Safety Management (PSM)
Exposure to PSM or EPA RMP programs
Flexibility, and ability to learn quickly
Ability to read, understand, and edit P&IDs and electrical diagrams
Basic understanding of chemical processing/distillation equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, etc.)
Knowledge of site capabilities and limitations to ensure efficient and effective disbursement/storage.
Strong team player
Scheduling and planning with Excel/Sheets focus.
Microsoft Project Management software utilization a plus
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Time management: The ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines.
