Case Manager, Veterans Treatment

Position Overview

Position Summary: The Veterans Education to Employment Case Manager works with the Veterans Services Employment team to support participants’ employment and training goals. 

Job Functions:

  • Coordinate education to employment efforts with community partners, employers and schools to identify and link short-term education to employment programs/initiatives to eligible veterans.
  • Utilize a strengths-based approach to help veteran’s access training, education & employment services.
  • Develop and update individual, person-centered plans for employment placement, training and retention with veteran participants.
  • Assist veterans with resumes revisions, updates and catering them to specific jobs/industries.
  • Assist team members in the delivery of services to support participants’ program goals.
  • Support student veterans through case management services as they work to complete coursework and successfully graduate.
  • Coordinate employment and educational goals in concert with employment Case Managers and Job Developers
  • Effectively track training enrollments, financial cost and training outcomes.
  • Become well-versed in program and procedures to appropriately assist assigned veterans.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with colleagues and program staff.
  • Develop and maintain a system for tracking grants spending and training outcomes with program management.
  • Document all services in compliance with agency standards.
  • Participate in ongoing individual supervision, team meetings, case conferences, division meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in SUS Veterans Service Fair(s), the Veterans Day Parade, and other company events
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by management.
  • Handles unexpected situations by responding effectively to challenges, deadlines and emergencies.  Copes adequately with stress on the job.
  • Provides timely, accurate and clear documentation according to established policies and procedures.
  • Applies time management skills to work effectively within given deadlines.  Organizes own time and prioritizes workload effectively. 
  • Willingness to initiate new ideas.  Consistently looks for better ways of doing things.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written and listening skills. 
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Responds to consumer needs promptly, accurately and with courtesy and respect.  Models appropriate behavior.  Represents the organization in a positive and appropriate manner to outside resources.
  • Supports the missions and values of SUS and draws attention to behavior that undermines group effectiveness or is inconsistent with core values.
  • Maintains confidentiality of consumers and staff.  Restricts information to those who need to know only.
  • Ability to conduct regular NYC-wide fieldwork (up to 25% of the time).
  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows, and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Can be relied upon to be available as needed; includes attendance, punctuality and occasional work outside of normal business hours.
  • Experience in employment programs preferred.
