Software Engineer Campus Bloomington

The Enterprise Decision Support Systems team in UITS seeks a passionate technical team leader. The applications and systems that we create and maintain support the faculty and staff of all Indiana University campuses. Our team delivers and supports IU’s reporting and analytics infrastructure. We support IU’s Enterprise Data Warehouse along with its portal, the Indiana University Information Environment (IUIE) as well as Tableau Server and our Data Virtualization server, Denodo. We also support our own custom application for creating groups and securing resources called Access Control Management (ACM). We use all of the most modern techniques and software in our development process. We develop all of our new applications in microservices with Java with the Spring Framework for the API layer and React for our front-end applications. We use Docker to enable continuous deployment. This leadership position provides a great opportunity to drive the development of our services. IU is a great place to work with excellent benefits.

This position is posted at a PAE4IT level but may be filled at a PAE3IT level depending on the candidate’s qualifications. Although they will be similar, the duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank. Please see the Requirements Section below for the qualifications listed for each level.


PAE4IT Requirements:
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Systems, or related discipline and five years of professional experience working as a software engineer using the standard development tools and frameworks.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Demonstrated ability working with UITS-scale software development. Expert knowledge of team standard development tools and frameworks. Understanding of common design patterns, service-oriented architecture, test-driven development, and agile methodology.

Demonstrable skill in analyzing complex problems and producing concrete, actionable solutions, specifically as it pertains to production troubleshooting. Experience resolving highly complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas. Enthusiasm for learning new technologies.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Customer service attitude and willingness to work as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment. Ability to work with a variety of people with varying degrees of technical knowledge.

Ability to assume project leadership on team projects and work at the highest level of technical complexity. High levels of accuracy, problem-solving, dependability, and responsibility.

PAE3IT Requirements:
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Systems, or related discipline and two years minimum professional experience working as a software engineer.

Demonstrated ability to work with enterprise-scale software development. Understanding of common design patterns, service-oriented architecture, test-driven development, and agile methodology.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Customer service attitude and willingness to work as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment.

Creativity in identifying complex problems and finding solutions quickly and accurately; attention to detail in communicating technical issues and implementing solutions; mental discipline in resolving software problems; ability to change priorities as project expands or project needs change.
