SPEECH THERAPIST -FT  Nexus Children’s Hospital has a career opportunity for you as a Speech Language Pathologist (S.L.P.)!Our Speech Therapist serve a vital role will observe the cardiac rhythms of patients placed on telemetry monitors and assist in Unit Secretary duties as needed .As the leader in pediatric medical services and rehabilitation, Nexus Children’s Hospital treats children with primary medical issues who may also have secondary behavioral problems. Working with patients from infancy to age 21 who may have been unsuccessful in traditional rehabilitation environments. Nexus Children’s Hospital transitions all types of patients through the care they need, acting as the bridge between the acute hospital and home. At Nexus Children’s Hospital, you become part of our family as we’re mending minds. Position Summary The Speech-Language Pathologist serves as the facility speech therapist conducting patient speech and language assessments, feeding, and swallowing evaluations, and speech therapy services as appropriate. Description
  • Performs speech therapy for facility patients as assigned.
  • Screens, consults, evaluate and develop individualized treatment plans for both inpatient and outpatient.
  • Evaluates patients within two to three working days of physician referral, depending on the level of care.
  • Provides age appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Evaluates patient response to treatment and documents the treatment plan as necessary.
  • Provides information and updates to staff, physician and family members.
  • Documents treatment and outcomes daily according to accepted regulatory, corporate and professional guidelines.
  • Provides patient and family education on tasks and resources that will assist with continued functional independence.
  • Communicates results of speech-language evaluations and recommendations to treatment team and patient/family.
  • Participates in patient care conferences as necessary to provide updated patient progress and goal revisions if needed.
  • Serves as a resource in areas of speech-language pathology.
  • Conducts in-services as requested.
  • Coordinates treatment activity with other disciplines and team members as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the development of improved efficiency and productivity of unity clinical functions.
  • Offers positive suggestions/solutions to improve service delivery and unit operations.
  • Contributes to the delivery of cost effective care.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately and uses/maintains equipment to prolong working life.
  • Participates in discharge planning.
  • Documents and charges daily therapeutic units timely and accurately.
  • Communicates with the Director of Rehabilitation Services regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems and successes.
  • Supervise the Speech-Language Pathology assistant in direct patient care and patient related activities. Accesses and checks email each shift when working to keep informed of current events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 Job Requirements Experience
  • Minimum of one year experience working in an IP and OP setting in the areas of developmental disabilities and neurological/orthopedic conditions.; Pediatric experience preferred
  • Extensive experience in feeding and swallowing treatment and evaluations,
Skills
  • Must be licensed by the state of Texas by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
  • Must be certified in CPR
  • Must maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility
  • Maintains certifications and licenses as current to avoid voluntary resignation.
Education Required
  • Minimum graduate of a master’s level program in which is either accredited by the Speech-Language Pathology Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association credentialing.
