This is a hybrid role combining work from our Houston office with working from home.

Specific Responsibilities

The Senior Internal Auditor (IT / Operational) for Apache Corporation will be a vital member of Apache's Internal Audit team, reporting to the Manager of Internal Audit at the Houston, TX office. This role will be a key resource in leading and performing IT Audits, operational audits and SOX testing as needed. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:

* Develop audit risks, scopes, objectives, work programs and testing procedures as needed
* Complete assigned audits, advisory engagements or special projects as the Lead or a team member, identifying audit findings and developing sound corrective recommendations
* Effectively and efficiently execute process design reviews and control testing procedures to fulfill audit objectives
* Supervise and review the work product of other audit team members when serving as the Lead
* Perform test work related to SOX 404, including ITGC and application controls
* Document business and system processes as needed, identifying relevant risks and controls
* Work with and support the business in developing and instituting needed actions to improve operations and controls, and at times adopting best practices
* Quickly become familiar with stakeholder's business challenges and risks and act as a trusted advisor while leading change and at times, dealing with ambiguity among cross functional teams
* Prioritize projects effectively and drive cross-functional remediation efforts focusing on the highest risks and ensure problems stay fixed
* Identify opportunities to improve, automate, standardize or simplify Internal Audit tools and processes
* Assist with development of audit plans by identifying business process and information technology (IT) risks; determining risk severity and business impact; and developing audit tests of controls
* Prepare and organize audit work papers to document work performed and support audit conclusions
* Draft well-written reports at the conclusion of audits covering audit scopes, procedures performed, findings and recommendations
* Lead or attend audit closing meetings to communicate audit work, findings and recommendations to management including action plan development
* Identify and determine control deficiencies and severity by evaluating current environment against internal standards, policies, procedures, and information technology (IT) standards and frameworks
* Tests layers of computer systems (for example, application, database, operating system, data, infrastructure) for information technology (IT) effectiveness and managerial control by assessing IT components of platforms and applications
* Consistently apply exceptional analytical skills to assess and monitor risks and strengthen Apache's internal operations and technology solutions
* Liaise with external auditors as needed, including representing IA in status and coordination meetings
* Communicate with clients and the audit management team to confirm audit findings by producing audit documents and work papers; documenting findings and recommendations for management review and presentations
* Assist with departmental projects related to audit planning, operations and SOX

Qualifications & Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, information technology, management information systems, computer science, economics, or other relevant field required

* CISA, CIA, CPA or other relevant certification preferred

* 5+ years of relevant experience in public accounting and/or internal audit

* Experience with IT reviews (e.g., ITGC, SDLC, networks, cybersecurity)

* Experience with higher level operational audits, financial audits and process auditing and identifying control gaps and process improvement opportunities

* Ability work independently to conduct operational and SOX audits from beginning to end, manage stakeholders, and facilitate multiple projects at the same time

* Proven strong aptitude for problem solving and root cause analysis

* Experience with hands-on consultancy through audit or otherwise desired

* Hands-on experience with SOX principles and testing required

* Strong teamwork orientation, with the ability to work independently as needed

* Knowledge and experience with SAP beneficial

* Oil and gas industry experience preferred but not required

* Excellent Communication Skills (written and verbal)

* Up to 10% travel may be required, both domestically and internationally
